Winter Memories

November 13, 2013 (Updated December 6, 2016)

What’s your first, best memory of winter? Maybe you stood in the yard watching the white flakes spiral down out of the dark sky. Perhaps you recall the inaugural snowman rolled back and forth across the yard, one mittened hand at a time. Or was it the day you were old enough to ride the sled alone, barreling down the slope headfirst and fearless?

Winter in Oregon recaptures those feelings. The snow in the mountains, snow parks and forests brings on the magic of winter. Steep slopes and open bowls offer just the right amount of challenge and thrill for skiing and boarding. The friendly bustle in our small ski towns makes everyone feel like part of a great winter road trip. These are all the ingredients for creating great memories.

So what new memories will you make this year? Take your first family ski trip and ride the lift with the kids. Sign them up for ski camp and watch them bomb down the mountain at at Cooper Spur Mountain Resort, a day trip on the beginner terrain at Warner Canyon or snowbiking at Hoodoo Ski Area. Try night skiing through fresh snowfall at Mt. Hood Skibowl. Plan a romantic getaway to Timberline Lodge with your sweetheart. Take a snowboard lesson, or head off into the quiet woods on a groomed Nordic track. Or maybe this is the year you’ll plan a hut trip in the Wallowa Mountains or the Three Sisters Wilderness north of Mt. Bachelor.

It’s winter in Oregon. Time to make memories!

A few of our favorite winter memories from recent years:

Escape to the fine, dry powder of Anthony Lakes Ski Area
Sleigh rides, ice skating and snow tubing
Cat skiing Mt. Bailey
