November. It’s that in-between season. We’ve put away the kiteboarding gear and the SUP boards. The mountain bike is on its way to the garage. We’ve planted the garlic, raked the leaves and pretended to take an interest in planning Thanksgiving dinner.
But our thoughts are in the Oregon mountains with visions of cold, wet storms and curtains of white.
We’re dreaming of night skiing through fresh snowfall at Mt. Hood Skibowl.
We’re thinking about cruising untracked powder from the cat ski at Mt. Bailey or Anthony Lakes Ski Area. We’re plotting a hut trip. Should we head to the Wallowa Mountains or the Three Sisters Wilderness north of Mt. Bachelor?
Maybe it’s time to plan the kids’ season — ski camp at Cooper Spur Mountain Resort, a day trip on the beginner terrain at Warner Canyon or snowbiking at Hoodoo Ski Area. And, while we’re at it, we’ll book a romantic weekend at Timberline Lodge without the kids.
We’re planning, waiting, anticipating. Snow is coming.
