About Hood River Fruit Loop

Hood River Fruit Loop

This 35-mile scenic drive through the valley's orchards, forests, farmlands, and friendly communities is a must-do.

A picturesque valley, two towering snow-capped peaks, and thousands of acres of orchards provide great photo opportunities as well as fruits and wines, lavender and alpacas, and family activities.

Some recommended stops:

Panorama Point for picture-perfect views of Mt. Hood.

-Gorge White House, a 1910 Dutch Colonial Revival, hosts wine tastings and a 9-acre garden of snapdragons, lilies, dahlias, and sunflowers with views to Washington's Mt. Adams.

-Cookie Stop Bakery for snicker doodles and molasses cookies

-Toll Bridge County Park. There were family reunions, horseshoe games, and the East Fork Hood River flowing through, milky with glacial silt—camping, too.

-Nelson's Blueberry Farm, for "the blueberry farm with the best view of Mt. Hood," according to the owner.

Good Fortune Farms, gawk at the alpacas

-Lavender Valley Lavender Farm for gorgeous fields of lavender with views of Mt. Hood.

    Delightful Experience

We visited Hood River in the fall. Perhaps not peak season for the Fruit Loop but so enjoyed it. It is still apple and pear season and they were delicious! The leaves were turning and the weather was beautiful. The stores along the Fruit Loop are so charming. Our favorites included: Pearl's Farmstand, Mt. Hood Winery, Packer Orchard and Bakery, Apple Valley Country Store and Smiley's Red Barn. The drive itself is beautiful with the orchards and vineyards and Mt. Hood always in the background. Several places have picnic areas where you can stop to enjoy your purchases or lunch you have brought along. Plan a half day if you want to really enjoy the time and stop at enough places along the way.
