Total Solar Eclipse Events

A total solar eclipse is rare. You probably won’t be alive when the next one falls over Oregon. So it’s only natural to feel excited about this once-in-a-lifetime celestial occurrence. Because you’re not alone. Across the state, communities are hosting special events in honor of the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. And they’re celebrating in the most Oregon ways possible — with wine, music, history, science and the great outdoors. Take a look at some of the eclipse events scheduled to take place, and keep checking this page...

Total Solar Eclipse: Know Before You Go

Eclipse chasers from around the world are expected to come to Oregon to see this rare astronomical event. The path of totality spreads across a relatively rural area of the state that isn’t used to such a large numbers of visitors. For this reason, it’s important to show up booked and ready with a plan.… More

Historic Highway Bingo: Hood River to The Dalles

September 10, 2016
Wake up in paradise, Hood River, the windsurfing capital of the world and the perfect place to linger during a tour of the Gorge. If you spend the night in the Columbia Gorge Hotel (N4), a 1920 historic landmark frequented by old Hollywood stars and presidents, grab a great view of Wah-Gwin-Gwin Falls, the second-highest waterfall in the Gorge. Historic Highway Bingo: Scenic Corridor to Mitchell Point

Take a trip back in time and experience the Columbia River Gorge as it was a century ago. Thanks to community restoration work, previously abandoned sections of the historic highway are returning to their early glory days. We recommend bringing some hiking shoes and a bike to take full advantage of this adventurous, often car-free segment. More

Historic Highway Bingo: Troutdale to Waterfall Alley

Slip away from city life and escape to the Columbia River Gorge. The Historic Columbia River Highway begins (or ends, depending on your direction) on the outskirts of Greater Portland in the charming town of Troutdale (B1), known as the “Gateway to the Gorge.” Browse stores and galleries downtown, eat meals from vintage cookbooks and stroll the grounds of McMenamins Edgefield. In true centennial spirit, you can locate the new bronze statues of the historic highway’s visionaries, Samuel Lancaster and Sam Hill, in Troutdale’s Visionary... More

Oregon Road Sessions

June 2, 2016
Sure, this state is beautiful. But part of what makes Oregon, well, Oregon are the people. Creativity flows through our towns and out of our borders. Watch this year's Oregon Road Sessions and you'll understand. Talented Pacific Northwest musicians turned historic Oregon State Parks into performances stages, playing their biggest hits in some pretty unique places. From the newest Oregon State Park to the oldest water-powered mill in the state and an abandoned ghost town's church, these are venues most bands would never even dream... More
