Girls’ Getaway to Newberg

Wine tasting, dining and relaxing with moms or girlfriends.
May 12, 2022 (Updated July 27, 2023)

Ready for a weekend getaway with your girlfriends? Newberg is the perfect destination for celebrating the important women in your life. Whether your crew likes active adventures or spas and wine tasting, you’ll find plenty of fun in this charming community in the North Willamette Valley. Here’s an insider’s guide on where to stay and what to do when you arrive.

Cozy Lodging in Oregon Wine Country

Step one for any girls’ getaway is a great place to stay. Newberg has options for groups of every size, some of which can accommodate furry friends.

If your group includes some who’d appreciate their own space to decompress, try the luxurious Allison Inn & Spa, which has spacious rooms and sweeping vineyard views. Or consider boutique hotel The Setting Inn, a contemporary inn located on 10 acres and has eight cozy one-bed rooms decorated with modern rustic touches.

If you’re planning a trip for a bigger group, book a guesthouse with big couches for long catch-up conversations and dream kitchens for preparing meals together. Look into the private residences offered by Lifestyle Properties, some of which are pet-friendly and, like The Pearl, can sleep up to groups of nine.

Want to really get the rural experience (with some luxury touches)? Book into the Bell Road Farmhouse, a comfortable guesthouse with sweeping vineyard views at Chehalem Winery. Prefer to be within walking distance of a coffee shop? Stay downtown in the Yamhill Flats Studios or the Newberg Wine Country Suites.

Balloons, Bikes, Spas or Films

Once settled into your home away from home, it’s not difficult to find adventure. Early birds should consider a hot-air balloon ride. Vista Balloon Adventures takes groups of up to 10 on private morning excursions with views of the vineyards, the full majesty of the Willamette River and, on a clear day, Oregon’s 10 snowcapped mountains.

If your group is up for some exercise, book a bike tour with Wine de Roads. This family-owned business offers memorable experiences and loads of insider knowledge on the local wine scene, including the best off-the-radar places to stop for tastings and a picnic lunch.

Looking for a more leisurely approach to a weekend away? Newberg has several options for pampering yourself. Resonate Health Spa focuses on holistic wellness with treatments like infrared saunas, which operate at a lower, more comfortable temperature than traditional saunas. Looking for extra luxury? The Allison Inn & Spa offers the full wellness-retreat experience as well as an indoor pool, yoga classes, salon services and a spa cafe.

Regardless of how you spend your days, a visit to 99W, Newberg’s retro drive-in movie theater, for a weekend double feature is a perfect way to cap the evening. Plan to tailgate with popcorn and snacks from the on-site concessions stand, or bring your own.

Savor Wines from Producers where Women Lead

Newberg is a major destination for wine tasting. Seven wineries have tasting rooms within the city limits, and there are more than 60 within Newberg’s zip code. Many feature women winemakers or owners.

Make a reservation at Adelsheim Vineyard to taste winemaker Gina Hennen’s single-vineyard pinots and the winery’s famous chardonnay. Just across the road, book an appointment to try vineyard-owner Janis Pate’s limited bottlings from her biodynamic vineyard, Arlyn

Sample the latest creations of Wynne Peterson-Nedry, a second-generation Oregon winemaker at Ribbon Ridge Winery who builds off of her father’s legacy with cutting-edge techniques. For a unique experience, book a reservation for a tasting on their yurt deck amid storied Ribbon Ridge vines. An option for downtown Newberg tasting is Et Fille Wines, where Winemaker Jessica Mozeico specializes in sustainably farmed pinot noir and viognier. Reserve online to snag a table in their elegant tasting room.

Shop and Dine in Downtown Newberg

If shopping is a favorite hobby of your girl crew, Newberg’s many women-owned boutiques will keep you busy. Lineage, Nikki Jane’s and Little Bird all focus on women’s fashion and accessories. Pulp & Circumstance has beautiful selections of gifts and home goods, while Red Hills Home & Gift carries a little bit of everything.

Make sure to leave time to visit the woman-artist-owned Studio 306 for gifts of upcycled jewelry and mixed-media paintings. Indulge your houseplant habit at Uflora Plant House or pick up a fragrant souvenir at Little Lavender Shop

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll find lots to choose from. For a quick and easy meal with lots of options to suit everyone in your group, check out Newberg’s food-cart pod, Bite of Newberg. There you can find freshly made gyros, spanakopita and chocolate hazelnut baklava at Lemon and Oliveor dig into the curry, noodle and rice dishes at Bangkok Noi Thai.

A short walk away at Good Company Cheese Bar & Bistro, owner Kristen Kidney’s charcuterie boards make for a wonderful light supper or snack, especially paired with a round of craft cocktails. Or head down the road to enjoy Mexican dishes with a focus on fresh ingredients at Dos Mundos Mexican American Cuisine.

Want to get dressed up for a fancy dinner out? Book a reservation for a 5-course dinner and wine pairing at Rosmarino Osteria Italiana, or the eight-course tasting menu at James Beard Award–nominated The Painted Lady (which also has an adjacent guest cottage for maximum convenience). Both are fitting places to wrap up a few days away with friends, and raise a glass to the women in our lives and how much we love them.
