If you want to understand the Oregon trail and pioneer life, this a a mandatory stop. There are several docents on the property to answer questions and provide perspective. The buildings and artifacts greatly aid in understanding what it was like to be pioneer.The site also has covered picnic tableS.
I visited here on their "Cider squeeze" event, to watch rather than partake! The farm was an interesting place dating back to the early settlers. We saw the remains of the original homestead as well as going in to the replacement, nice to see how things were then. The farm used to serve the pioneers who were travelling on the wagon trains with food etc. There were also some hands on activities for children to try out as well as a small gift shop which is a replica general store and a log cabin that would have been rented out to weary travellers.
My daughter, friends, and myself had a wonderful time at Philip Foster Farm. Their were young ladies to give us a tour and tell us all about the farm and the Fosters. There were activities and things to do/see that our young children (6 years and 18 months) really loved.
My wife and I visited the grounds of Foster Farm on a weekday afternoon. I think there were 3-4 other people on the grounds. As a history buff I was delighted to see that not only has the Foster home been maintained but that the barn and other structures have been as well. A fascinating look into the people who pioneered Oregon. Note that they open at 11 am. There is a small gift store and a swing attached to a tree that is fun to make use of.
My daughters 4th grade class picked this place to go for a field trip. They were asked ahead of time if the location could be navigated by wheelchairs and/or knee scooters and they said that it could be "except for a narrow stairway" inside one of the buildings. Well that was a LIE. My daughter had to sit by herself in the picnic area while her classmates enjoyed the field trip. She has a broken leg and her only mobility is using a knee scooter. It seems that the $7.00 a head for 96 kids was enough to make these people lie to us about it being an accessible place. So very lame and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
