Delicious food and a pleasant waitress
My cousin and I had lunch at the Black Iron Grill on April 9, 2025. I had a Reuben and he had a salad. Both of us enjoyed our food. Our waitress was pleasant and we enjoyed talking with her. The prices are reasonable.

Great patio and cold beer.
Good food and nice cold beer. We love eating there when in Vernonia. They have a wonderful outside patio where there is plenty of room for our group of 8. We always feel welcomed by the staff.

Unfriendly Staff and Being Ignored Moved Us to Go Elsewhere
I don't like to post negative reviews, but our brief visit to this establishment was so odd that it merits comment. When my wife and I entered, we were greeted not with a smile but with a scowl, and actual scowl, by the woman working there. We said we'd be two for lunch, to which she replied "Lunch‽" as if it was a strange request on our part. She asked if we would be inside or outside. We said outside please. She then handed us two menus and pointed to the door, saying she'd find us. We took a table outside, looked over the menus and waited. We staff members come out, take orders, bring food to other customers, come back and take another order, but never once did anyone further acknowlege us sitting there. We would have understood if the place was busy, but it was about half full. We also would have understood if they were understaffed, but that didn't seem to be the case, nor was anything said to that point (such as "We're short staffed so please bear with us.") After some time of being completely ignored, we finally decided to take our business to another restaurant, which we did just down the street and had a delicious meal.

A Popular Place for Good Reasons
Happy choice, good place to stop while driving scenic hwy 47. Wide variety of creative dishes. Primarily a hamburger joint. Well appointed patio, with a ping pong table! Inside with cozy old school booths. Draft beer and yummy smoothies. Downside the bacon in my otherwise ingredient full bleu burger was tough as leather. But I would definitely come here if passing this way.

Middle of the road
We rode our bikes from Stub Stewart and intended to have lunch at another restaurant, but it was closed. The Black Iron has a nice, clean outdoor seating area where we could park the bikes. Although they would not let us charge our ebikes. The server was nice. However, she disappeared for long stretches so I assumed she was the only one working in and out. I didn’t get a chance to ask for refills until she brought the bill. The food was average at best. The Reuben had a fair amount of meat but was not spectacular. The fries were a shade over warm and grainy. This was one of only a few places to eat in town mid-week. It did not seem like they were trying very hard to capitalize on this. I can not recommend.
