Bonneville Hatchery was constructed in 1909.
Display ponds offer a relaxing place to feed large rainbow trout and view adult white sturgeon measuring more than 10 feet long. There is a gift shop open all year. Interpretive displays are available inside and out, including an informational video and a viewing area to watch fall spawning activities. ADA-accessible restrooms are available.

Fun stop on our road trip - completely free. Lots of sturgeon and salmon to watch, found myself cheering for them to make it up the fish ladder! Self guided and informative signage, you can stay as long or as little as you want.
This was a fun outing. We did not see many adult salmon; however, seeing the hatchery was quite enjoyable. The indoor exhibits are underwhelming, which may be due to the season we were there. Highlights for us were learning the history of the hatchery, and seeing Herman the Sturgeon and the other sturgeons which was truly cool. The property is also very pleasant, so stopping by and walking around the venue is a lot of fun. There is also a sweet little gift shop with some nice items for souvenirs on the grounds.
The idea to visit this place came from my husband's cousin with who we travelled. Maybe you can see hatcheries around the world but this one is special as you can see sturgeons. Gosh we saw famous Herman which is over 80 years old and several younger sturgeons swimming together with trouts. There are several ponds dedicated to different ages of the fish. The whole area is very nice, trees have nest boxes and we saw good use of them by swallows. In the gift shop you can buy many nice items as well coffee and cakes. There is large car park and the entry is free. And there are also clean restrooms.
Great for education. I did not know the care and effort behind the salmon preservation. You get to see and learn a lot by going through the exhibit.
A nice place to visit and view a fish hatchery. There is some information, but not as much as we would have expected. It also has some sturgeon that you can see to really comprehend their size. The sturgeon pond is really the only thing that sets this apart from other publicly available fish hatcheries, in my opinion.
