Road Trip: Parkdale and Odell

January 3, 2013 (Updated November 14, 2016)

Rumor has it that there’s more to the east side of Mt. Hood than awesome downhill skiing. Upon investigation, we can now confirm that it’s true. Here are some fun spots along Highway 35.

For an alternative to alpine skiing and boarding, take a Nordic tour through the snowy woods on Mt. Hood. Ski off the beaten track out off the Bennett Pass Sno Park or Pocket Creek Sno Park, or skate the groomed track at Teacup Lake. Check with the Mt. Hood Ranger District for maps.

Stop in at Michoacan Sports Grill in Odell for some seriously good Mexican food made from scratch. Try the carnitas — the chef’s family recipe — carne asada, or, if you are in the mood for al a carte, a range of tasty tacos.

Solera Brewery in Parkdale makes a great winter gathering spot. Try the Solera Peche Bier, a wheat beer made with Hood River Valley peaches. Stop in Monday night for the $9 special — sausage and a pint.

Glassometry Studios in Odell offers classes in glassblowing, fusing, slumping and metal sculpture. Check out the gallery and pop into the studio, where you can blow your own glass (for ages 5 and up).
