Sure to make your bucket list of camping memories, you’re invited to gather at one of Oregon’s darkest places – Cottonwood Canyon State Park, which is now officially certified as an international Dark Sky Park!
Visitors will enjoy an evening of stargazing with ranger staff from Oregon State Parks and Rose City Astronomers (RCA). Volunteer astronomers will help visitors find various objects of interest in the night sky throughout the evening. You will be in awe at the beauty of a truly amazing night sky.
Ranger-led talk on night sky preservation at dusk 8pm. To cap off the night, volunteers will have deep space telescopes available for a fantastic night of star viewing.
This event is free and open to the public, with attendees of all ages welcome. Pre-registration, however is required. Tent camping area and a very limited number of RV parking slots will be held in the Day Use Area for this event. Regular camp spaces are available through the reservations page. Contact park staff for additional details.
Note: Cottonwood Canyon State Park is remote. There is no food, fuel or other services nearby. Please plan ahead thoughtfully for your trip. Star Party may be cancelled if bad weather or lack of volunteers with telescopes are not available.
