The Imperfecta Gallery is proud to present Celtae Arboreum. This fine art exhibition presents the latest collection by Mexican artist Renata Santamarina. In Celtae Arboreum, works are inspired by Ogham, a Celtic tradition that sees trees as archetypes that convey specific messages.
Ogham — often referred to as the Celtic Tree Alphabet — is an alphabet found on monumental inscriptions from the fourth to sixth centuries AD and in manuscripts from the sixth to ninth centuries AD. It consists of groups of one to five lines arranged vertically over a stem line, with each group representing a distinct letter. According to the High Medieval Bratharogam, each of the 20 Ogham letters was assigned a specific tree name (the nin) and a short descriptive phrase (the bratharogam).
Artist Renata Santamarina studied the Ogham philosophy to create the pieces in this collection. Each work is an invitation to explore how the soul of each represented tree might mirror one’s inner self, to perhaps discover some magic within.
The show debuts on July 2, with an Opening Reception from 5 to 8 p.m.
