We have always enjoyed tasting at Sarver Winery. Even though we live in Seattle and they don’t ship to Washington state, we joined their wine club and would make a special trip or go out of our way to stop when traveling to other Oregon cities. On this last visit we were on our way back from Ashland, OR. We hadn’t gotten an email saying the new wines had been released and it was time to pick up our club order, but we figured if we’d missed the release period we could still pick up our wines and do some tasting. The temperatures in Oregon had been in the 90’s all week with severe smoke and air quality issues. We had just spent 3 hours in the car. It was great to step into the air conditioning and we were looking forward to tasting. The person who interacted with us said, you’re not members, are you? We said actually we were, and hadn’t gotten an email about the summer release. He very defensively said that there were problems with their email system and the date was on the website (which it had not been when we checked a week ago). Then he told us that if we wanted to do tasting we would have to go to the booth outside; you could only be served in the tasting room if you were drinking full glasses or a bottle. The table outside had white wines on ice but they were barely cool and the reds were warm. There were a few tasting notes on the new releases, but the full lists of wines for sale were only indoors. We found a table and chairs we could drag into the shade and spent a miserable hour in the 90 degree heat and smoky air tasting wines - no convivial chatting with the tasting staff or backstories on the new wines, aspects we had enjoyed so much in the past. I think people who commit to buying several bottles of wine several times a year should be treated as valued customers. Since we weren’t treated that way during our last visit to Sarver we decided not to renew our wine club membership.

We went there based on the reviews my hubby found on the Internet. It does have spectacular views and the inside is nice as well as lovely outdoor seating area. Hubby had a beer and I tried their 2-ounce pours, or so I was told, of how many I wanted (for me, whites) for $2 each as well as 2 complimentary “splashes” of wine. I tried the 2 complimentary splashes of their 2 sparkling wines and then decided to try the other 6 whites of their 2-ounce pours. The first one I tried was probably a 2-ounce pours but the rest were more like the “splashes.” He only charged me for 5 in lieu of the 6 I had. I feel he was too busy talking to another person at the bar and not focusing on who was getting what. The wines were good and we did buy a bottle but we were disappointed in the service — and there wasn’t that many people there. We’re still glad we went but doubt we’ll be back.

Nice view on a clear day. We were there a few days ago on a smoky day, but still.. the view of the valley and vineyards is beautiful. Friday was music. A good blend of Cabernet Sauvignon / Petite Sirah. Yes, they also have chocolate :)

Great view + great wine = a solid afternoon!
A very nice piece of land with some acres of wine grapes which they turn into... wait for it... WINE! And som me damn fine wine it is. Nice menu, too - an assortment of cheeses, olives, and charcuterie to enhance your wine-tasting experience. They often have have a hot soup or a stew as well. Quite a nice boeuf bourguinon made with their own pinot noir - tough to beat the Oregon pinots! Also... THE VIEW! If the Cascade Range wasn't in the way, you could see all the way to Bend... Highly recommend this gem of a vineyard and winery.

Sarner has been one of our favorite local wineries for years, for both the wine, the beautiful location and the outdoors patio. We were here about 2 months ago and had a nice time, servers were wearing their masks, and tables were a safe distance away on the patio to feel safe to enjoy the view with a bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate. Tonight was a gorgeous autumn evening, so we decided to repeat our summer experience. However, this time the servers are not wearing masks at all. This shows a complete lack of respect for us as their customers and put me on edge for the rest of our brief visit. Even while at our table, one of the workers leaned over the table without a mask to speak into our faces. I will not be returning until after COVID is completely over. So sad to see such a lack of respect for life.
