Wonderful restaurant in Hood River
Such a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant with some friends. The young chef is creative and uses the freshest ingredients, and she brought out some of the dishes herself. Fantastic oysters with uni, wonderful salad and veggies, lovely lamb, among other dishes. Perfect service and a nice simple ambience. The wine list has some amazing wines, especially Bordeaux wines, although we would have liked to see more options from the Willamette and Columbia River wineries. It's worth visiting Hood River just to dine here.

Unbelievable seafood-based tasting menu
My wife and I just had one of the best meals of our lives at this magnificent resturaunt. I have enjoyed tasting menus at several other highly regarded resturaunts in Oregon and I can honestly say they all paled in comparison to the excellent work of chef Sarah at Votum. Host Nathan made us feel welcome and well cared for from our first arrival. The resturaunt has a clean modern vibe with an excellent selection of background music. Nathan gave us a detailed explanation of each dish without making the experience feeling stuffy. They were also accommodating of our dietary preferences and prepared exquisite. My favorite dish of the evening was the unmatched lamb entree, but I truly enjoyed each course, which is rarely the case with tasting menus. It was definitely one of the more expensive meals I have ever enjoyed, but I have no regrets and feel the experience away worth every penny.

Great dining experience.
This was a great dining experience. Intimate experience. Two owners, one cooks and the other serves. Both the food and service were truly outstanding. The menu is seafood focused with carefully sourced ingredients. We had oysters, sea urchin, a tuna crudo, wild mushroom risotto and sturgeon and steelhead as the main courses. Also a wild huckleberry semifredo for dessert. All were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Service never lapsed. While it was not inexpensive, it was worth the price.

Have you ever eaten barnacles?
This place is legit! A five-star restaurant in any city. Every unique and creative course (e.g., barnacles) in the chef's tasting menu was a hit. Exceptional service! We'd rank Votum right up there with two of our favorite restaurants in the SW (Cafe Monarch in Scottsdale and Geronimo in Santa Fe).
