New owner, new chef, new decor, but still great for dinner.
Jackalope Grill is tucked away under an apartment building on the eastside of downtown Bend next to the parking garage. It had new ownership, perhaps a different chef or two, and an upgraded decor since our last visit. This restaurant is still a high quality and delightful place for a quiet dinner. The dark and cozy eclectic decor is comforting and inviting. The dinner menu is decidedly shorter than two years ago. Five appetizers, five main courses, plus a couple of soup and salads options: all focused on new American cuisine. The huge and sharable German inspired jaegar schnitzel is gone. But the main courses are still huge. My wife's double thick pork chop was perfectly juicy and tender: topped with sauteed apple, and sitting on a bed of radiatore pasta in a creamy smoked cheese sauce and collard greens. My roasted duck breast has a beautiful crispy skin. The medium rare preparation was slightly under-done for my taste and the squash gnocchi were hard and dense. Jackalope has an extensive wine list and their small bar does a passible job crafting cocktails. Expect to take left-overs home for a second meal, unless you have an enormous appetite. Recommended for a date night or special occasion in Bend.

Lovely Restaurant for Good Food and Ambiance in Bend
We had a wonderful dinner tonight at the restaurant. We decided to eat inside due to some smoke from the fires. The ambiance inside is lovely. Green lights from branches on the ceiling with soothing music in the background. My husband, daughter and I have different tastes. My husband had appetizers for dinner: escargot, carpaccio and canty. He raved about all of them and wanted extra bread for the escargot sauce. Our daughter had the raddiatore pasta and it was wonderful. I had the chicken and enjoyed every bite. Our server, Adrianna was so engaging and sweet. She topped the evening. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Bend.

Beautiful courtyard/excellent service, food & drinks/highly recommend!
Brought guests from Berlin here last night and everything was superb. They fit us in even though they were short a server, and didn't rush or pressure us to leave though we closed the place down & likely kept them late. The service was attentive & friendly, the cocktails were made to perfection (not too sweet as we requested), and the food was also excellent (dip the fresh warm bread in the escargot butter, it's heaven!). The atmosphere of the courtyard is really something special!! The plants and decorative lighting make you feel you're in a secret wonderland garden. It was a fabulous evening and we'll be back soon!!
