Newest Eats in the Tualatin Valley

June 9, 2020

Editor’s note: Call businesses before you go to make sure they are open; follow updated travel restrictions for your region; and practice social distancing measures while you are out.

Oregon’s Tualatin Valley, just west and south of Portland, has enjoyed a craft food and drink revolution in recent years. Food lovers in Beaverton and Tigard have been swooning over new eateries featuring dumplings and ramen, wine and bubble tea, hip breweries and even Oprah’s favorite fried chicken. Here’s where to go for some of the most exciting takeout and delivery options on Portland’s west side.

Caffeine Fix to Go

Lionheart Coffee Company, a full-service cafe with an online retail store and two Beaverton locations, the newest being downtown. The shop is currently open with social-distancing measures in place, serving breakfast, coffee, teas, kombucha, beer and wine. Lionhart also serves free lunches to anyone in need.

Spice Up Your Takeout Options

Just across the street, Bistro Royale opened in April 2020 as an outpost of Portland’s popular Top Burmese restaurant, offering up scrumptious Burmese samosas, tamarind hot wings, salads, khao soi and other noodle soups and several vegan options.

Wine Happiness Delivered

Occupying another corner is Syndicate Wine Bar, downtown’s first wine bar, which features a growing list of vinos including its own. The shop is open with social-distancing measures in place, as well as offering curbside service, local delivery and 20% off online wine sales.

Boba Tea Treat

Treat yourself and the kids to boba tea at home by ordering from Beaverton’s Milk + T, the Los Angeles-based handcrafted beverage bar that uses loose-leaf teas, scratch-made syrups and lactose-free milk all served in a tall reusable glass jar — the perfect travel vessel.

Ultimate Pizza Night

Also downtown is Ex Novo Brewing Company, the North Portland brewpub’s second outpost, known for their well-balanced ales, hearty Detroit-style pizza and mission to do good by donating 100% of their net profits to local charities (check out their cool “Drink Beer Do Good” swag). Order your favorite cans or a crowler for your next pizza night and get it delivered throughout Beaverton and most of Portland.

Dumplings Delights

Just south of Beaverton in Tigard, get your fix for Taiwanese dumplings with takeout at Din Tai Fung, based at Washington Square mall. The first Oregon location of this restaurant is famous for its Taiwanese soup dumplings called xiao long bao, which means “little dumpling in a basket.” Check out their vegetable and mushroom dumplings for your next Meatless Monday dinner.

Winner, Winner, Fried Chicken Dinner

You may have heard that Oprah’s favorite fried-chicken joint has landed in Oregon: Ezell’s Famous Chicken, a Seattle-based chain that Oprah had cater her 36th birthday party in Chicago. Put a smile on everyone’s face with a takeout or delivery order of crispy, juicy chicken marinated in a New Orleans-style seasoning, with classic sides like mashed potatoes, golden-fried okra and mac ’n cheese. Ezell’s is located at Washington Square mall in Tigard.
