Everyone must be sconed and baked out here (3 out of 3)
We had one opportunity for breakfast on the Oregon coast during our short two day stay. I chose to drive 35 minutes north from our Lincoln City, OR bungalow to this place, Grateful Bread Baking. It seemed like a cool and smart thing to do at the time. After all, it was ranked on TA as the #3 restaurant for breakfast on the Oregon coast. Let's see how this trip unfolded. We arrived on a Friday morning about a quarter of noon. We got sat right away at a table in the dining room. I started by ordering a Caramel Macchiato ($5.50) which I enjoyed. Others in the party got a can of Sierra Mist soda ($2.25) and a bottle of Root Beer ($3.25). For our food orders, others in our party got a local Dory Cod Sandwich ($18.50) and a French Toast ($14.95). I went with something called Friend of the Devil ($16.95) with Jalapenos added for $1 extra. Potatoes and two house-made biscuits were also included in the plate along with a strawberry jam that you just have to try. I didn't like the scramble choice at all. The potatoes were way better than the scramble. The biscuits were way better than the potatoes. The strawberry jam was the best thing on the plate. I could eat that jam all day on any kind of toast or biscuit that I could find and it would always be a winner. The overall service here is what I am going to classify and describe as plainly fair. I get it. I mean, it must be tough working at a restaurant on the coast with the cool ocean breeze and having to hear those waves crash. Maybe, even a whale that swims by every now and again. It's a laidback vibe. I get it. I really do. Like just chill man. Well, okay. I didn't get the cool surfing, laidback vibe here. I just didn't. I just got plainly fair with a supremely adequate flair. I need more oomph, more aliveness, but I guess that's what I get for picking a place with dead right there in it's name. Having said all that, you must get the raspberry white chocolate scones. They are to die for! So, I guess in summary, mixed bag.

Delicious
Stopped in on the way through Pacific City to check out the scones. All of the pastries looked amazing but we settled on the chocolate chip cookie. It was ridiculously good. Maybe the best cookie I've ever eaten.

Fantastic food!
Cute place. I ordered the cod sandwich with chowder. The cod was the best sandwich I’ve had in a very long time. Light panko breading. Cooked just right with tomato, red onion and lettuce. Delicious. The corn chowder also hit the spot. Did I mention the place is also a bakery? The brownies and cookies were very good. Only downside, they’re closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I can’t go back.

Popular breakfast spot
Be ready to wait on the weekends! We were told 20-30 min wait, but it was about 55 minutes to get seated, and then another 45 min to get our food. Service was friendly and food was well prepared. Famous scones had too much icing and were way too sweet.

Scrumptious breakfast, warm welcome, and served with smiles.
We made reservations for my granddaughter's birthday - Emily was great and she remembered me when I called back. It's a lovely setting in an older house. There were 7 of us on a Saturday morning at 0900, our table was ready, and our server knew about the birthday surprise. We all ordered different breakfasts, we did not have to wait long for the food to arrive, and OMG it was yummy. They took special requests such as an eggwhite omelet, no onions, etc. Food was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. The homemade biscuits are incredibly light and fluffy - make sure you have them. Our birthday girl picked out the lemon raspberry scone on arrival (without knowing) and here it came with birthday candle much to her surprise. We never felt rushed although there was a steady arrival of other guests. I highly recommend and we will return when we are next in Pacific City.
