Goose Hollow Inn somehow stayed off my radar for more than a decade, but that changed fast once I tried it. I’ve stopped in three times just this past week. It has the kind of straightforward atmosphere I like—a little dive-bar character mixed with a place that knows how to make a damn good sandwich. It’s also ridiculously convenient from outside the city. I leave the car at Sunset Transit Center, ride the MAX to Goose Hollow, and I’m there. My order is the roast beef French dip on a Kaiser roll with cheddar, and it’s easily the best French dip I’ve found anywhere in Portland. Add the potato salad on the side and you’ve got a solid meal that keeps me coming back.

Old-School Portland Done Right
The Reuben was stacked with corned beef and had the right balance of meat, dressing, and flavor. It's a simple sandwich, but they know how to make it right. The place has that classic Portland feel—casual, a little rough around the edges, and full of personality. No trendy nonsense, just good food in a spot that's been doing its thing for years. Definitely worth checking out.

Reubens are great, as everyone knows. Love the patio as we had our giant dog. Staff are so sweet. What a nice experience!
The gentleman that served us and the chefs were so accommodating. I asked for a special order and it was done with a smile.

After some indefinite waiting time we were placed at a micro-table, squeezed in corner right in front of the air condition. The menus were torn and greasy. We looked at each other and left for a more welcoming place.

Great hot sandwiches!
Great little neighborhood spot. Boasts "best reuben on the planet" and they aren't exaggerating! My husband tried it and highly recommends! I had the hot turkey sandwich which was excellent. Friendly service from their seasoned waitstaff. Would definitely visit again.
