TripAdvisor Ratings & Reviews
This place is tucked into the back end of a small strip mall near the bowling alley in Forest Grove. It looked like a bar from the outside and was surprised when we walked in and tasted their fare. The presentation and quality is as good as any higher end restaurant in the Portland area. You really should check it out.
Great New Place In Town!
I have eaten here twice, and both time were fabulous! The food is so tasty, that I felt like my tongue had thrown a party for my mouth! The pork is marvelous! I had a sandwich, and I felt that I was at a great BBQ restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable and the tables are separated enough that there is some privacy. Each time that I have gone there, I have seen neighbors also. I highly recommend this place for friends or family!
Smells great like a smokehouse should but average fare at best
I wish I could rate this restaurant better because I am a bark shark from way back and smoke quite a bit of meat and fish myself. I actually gave them an extra star because I've only been there once and perhaps they were having a bad day. I was excited when I arrived because the smell outside the restaurant was wonderful. Nice and roomy inside but that evening we were there at dinnertime and there were very few people seated. Should have been my first clue? Service was adequate, but barely - should have been much better, especially so that there were very few people there. The menu isn't bad and boasted about their famous reuben made with their very own cured pastrami. I am a lover of good reubens and this sounded interesting so I gave it a try. My daughter had their home-made macaroni and cheese while others had salads and different cuts of meat. I have only been here once and I can only speak for my reuben and my daughters M&C but both were very lacking. The M&C was very lacking in freshness, taste and cheese and the reuben was EXTREMELY lacking in meat. The pastrami may have been delicious but was in so little quantity (two very small, paper thin pieces) that is was impossible to taste over the sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. C'mon guys - a reuben is all about the meat and how the other ingredients compliment it! The other people at the table seemed OK with their meals - unless they were just being nice as I was footing the bill. If in the area sometime I may give them a try again but as it stands, my first visit was not very impressive and in my opinion not good value for the money.
We know a bit about one of the of the principal owners of Black Dog, and that's Phil Carow, who owns Phil's 1500 Subs. For years, he has run the sub shop and occasionally he would do these wonderful BBQ Ribs. Well, these ribs and other great recipes are now available at Black Dog every day. I've had the ribs 5 times from Black Dog, and each time they have been delicious. They make a great Pastrami Ruben which my wife has had 5 times too. They make a very spicy cole slaw, which is a bit too much jalapeño for my taste (and I love spicy food!), so ask for a sample of it (and other sides) before getting it. All in all a solid 4.5+
Great food! Great location!
This was a great addition of restaurant options needed in FG! We have a been a few times and not disappointed. I love that they keep adding new things to the menu from time to time!
