ALEXANDER’S GREEK CUISINE IN ROSEBURG
I find it surprising how many of my Douglas County friends have never been to Alexander’s Greek Restaurant in Roseburg at 643 SE Jackson Street. Personally, Alexander’s is in my top three Greek restaurants in the U.S. Not that I know a lot about Greek food, because I always order the same thing. It’s just that Alexander’s does an exceptional job preparing a Gyro and Greek salad (pictured) just the way I like it. Alexanders has all the traditional Greek dishes. But the one I always select is the Gyro platter combination. The Gyro (pronounced yee-ro) is ground beef mixed with lamb (traditional Gyro) cooked on a vertical rotisserie, then sliced and served wrapped in pita bread, along with tomato, onion and tzatziki. The platter includes an ice-cold delicious salad with Greek dressing. I usually add a Too Shy IPA. I satisfied my craving Friday at Alexanders and encourage others to do likewise. Trust me when I write having a Greek restaurant like Alexanders is a privilege not many small towns can boast.

Worst food I've ever eaten
If I could give my review a 0 star I would. I ordered several items from the menu. Traditional Gyro, Moussaka, Dolmades, and Hellenic Tour appetizer. When I placed my pick-up order I was told it would take 30 minutes. When I got to the restaurant there were only two employees working, the waitress and a cook. There were four tables of people waiting to place orders or for their order to be served. I waited an additional 30 minutes for my food and still, a table of five had not been served during that 30 minute wait. The waitress was running from the front of the restaurant to the back over and over. She appeared over worked and stressed. When I arrived home I opened all the food containers. We tried the Gyro's first. When I looked and the combination of beef and lamb I could not tell which was which. They all looked the same, the "meat" had a strange appearance similar to wet cat food jerky. Some of it was burned and all of it was dry. The "meat" tasted old and dry. I really don't think it was real meat and it certainly didn't taste like real meat. The rice in the Dolmades was pasty and soft with no flavor. The Moussaka had very large chunk of under-cooked potatoes, under-cooked eggplant, and very little flavor. The bechemal sauce was taste-less and had a strange texture. What a disappointment!!!

One of our FAVORITE Restaurants in Roseburg
This restaurant has a wonderful selection and quality food. I love the rice bowl with tiny green garbanzo beans, but everything we have tried has been excellent. The Chocolate Torte for dessert is AWESOME and perfect for sharing.

A mixed review.
I love Greek food, and Alexander's did not disappoint. However, my wife is gluten-free, and on this occasion, most of their gluten-free alternatives were not available. We will be back, but I can't rate this visit higher than a 3.

Delicious and Authentic
Family returned and once again we experienced excellent service, including service provided by local first responders participating in the Heroes Challenge fund raiser. And, once again the Greek salads and Greek fries were delicious, as was the humus appetizer and the Hellenic Tour appetizer. This time all the main courses were pasta dishes including Souvlaki marinated pork, Alexander’s shrimp, and the Athenian pasta. All were really delicious. Recommend this downtown Roseburg eatery. Come hungry because the servings are plentiful.
