Take a step back in time and experience a slice of country life that is fading quickly. Dufur, a tiny town perched on the edge of the Columbia River Gorge, is a center of dryland wheat farming that began just after settlers arrived on the Oregon Trail, 175 years ago.
Visit the Living History Museum to check out old tools, information on living in the pioneer time, and enjoy Dufur.

We were not able to visit inside the museum because we visited on a Sunday. However, walking around the grounds of the museum was interesting and informative.
We visited Dufur during the Covid 19 pandemic so were not able to go inside the building. However, we walked around the grounds and saw terrific old buildings that had been relocated for their historic value, as well as antique farm equipment. It is a well organized, but small museum. I can't wait to go back when we will be able to go inside. I appreciate the kind consideration the proprietors have for our health.
With advance notice, the museum opened for us on special hours. A wonderful place to drift from exhibit to exhibit and think about what it took to carve a town out of the 19th century wilderness.
I really LOVE this place ~ it's real life reflected in a down home realistic way. I feel my history there and I am so grateful for all that the community does to keep this alive. Beautiful!
It’s in a small town we drove by. A gentleman was outside of the museum and greeted us warmly. Good artifacts and descriptions. Nice little charm.
