The perfect place to stay in the Pearl district of Portland.
My daughter and I met in Portland for a weekend of fun. This hotel was recommended by a good friend. It was so perfect for us. We had a double queen suite. The room was large, very clean, and unbelievably quiet. We both slept like babies. The beds and pillows were so comfy. Met a super helpful bellman, who was fun to talk to, and he gave us lots of tips on some great places to eat and shop. His name was John. The hotel staff inside were all very nice, and equally helpful, when we had questions about Portland. The building is historical, and decorated with very nice photos and paintings all over. Reasonable prices for rooms, plus parking across the street. All within walking distance to a ton of great restaurants and places to shop. Just a couple of minutes from the huge Powell Bookstore, where we spent a couple of hours exploring all the different sections and floors, full of books, puzzles, souvenirs, and nice helpful employees. We plan to stay at the Mark Spencer hotel again on our next meetup in Portland.

Overall, very nice place if you want to be near downtown
Perfect location for me. Close to Powell’s books, music at night, and good places to eat. Also, close to downtown—which could be considered either a good thing or not—depending on what you are in town for. I have stayed there off and on for probably about 20 years or so, and I have always enjoyed staying there. The room I got was nicer than I remember for this location, and it looked like it had been recently renewed. Overall, the facility is in very good repair. I enjoyed the live music at the wine tasting, something that sets this hotel apart.

Great staff! Weird bathroom.
The location is great, the staff is DELIGHTFUL, the bathroom is designed really weird. There are no shelves in the shower for personal items? The shower doesn’t have a full door either so the floor gets wet?? So weird. The slider door is hard to open and shuts itself. I could see someone getting stuck. The elevator is a little loud and I can hear people in the neighboring rooms— but it’s a historic building! I wish more of the original character of the oldest hotel in Portland was preserved. :( The room itself is comfortable and the view is great!

Great hotel, even better staff
Every staff member at the front desk was super helpful and nice. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel shampoos and conditioners didn’t mess up our hair, which was a big plus. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling alone or with their kids. Cheryl’s on 12th is a great spot right around the corner for breakfast/ brunch. Great location.
