Highly unprofessional staff
I cannot stress enough the unprofessional behavior of the staff member and shift manager (Joseph) that I unfortunately encountered Mother's Day weekend (2020) at this Holiday Inn Express. I'm generally a fan of Holiday Inns and have enjoyed business stays at several IHG properties in the region in recent years. However, the shift manager’s (Joseph’s) response to a concern I voiced about a verbally abusive tattoo-faced hotel staff member could not have been handled more amateurly and poorly. The encounter with the offensive staff member occurred in the hotel parking lot. I was not staying at the hotel, but strolling by with my family on Mother's Day. The employee was loudly berating and cussing out a pedestrian on the premises who attempted to quietly walk away. It appeared to me (and my family members, including my 6-yr-old child) the staff member was attempting to pick a fight with the pedestrian. As the situation escalated, I asked the staff member to refrain from loudly cursing in front of my family, to which he replied with more cursing directed at me. I reported the issue to the clerk at the front desk who identified the staffer and politely suggested calling Joseph (no mgr. was on duty). Joseph's response when I called the next day was insensitive, uncaring, impatient, defensive and rude, rather than the mature, apologetic and managerial touch that I was hoping for. I have since registered a complaint with IHG's national customer care center, but IHG has not followed up with a reply or apology of any kind.
I visited this hotel many years ago in 2009 on business and it left a good impression on me so when I was back in town I went back there and I will go there again. I like hotels in quiet areas and this is one of them but not too far from anything. Lots of free parking, clean and fresh smelling lobby and polite friendly front desk staff, even at just past midnight when I checked in. The room was clean and modern, all the fittings and fixtures worked, bathroom was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I slept really well there. Breakfast is the standard HIE fare which works fine for me as I like bagels on the weekend and healthier choices during the week. All in all this is a very nice hotel with friendly staff and an easy to access location. I will be back !
Great place to visit.
Wonderful place to visit. Great places to visit. From Pacific Ocean to the snow covered Mt Hood. Douglas Fir trees are everywhere, absolutely beautiful place. Weather was great, best part- tons of brewery's and winery's everywhere you went! Was suprised how inexpensive eveything was. Lots of reciews taljed about prices. Restaurants and drink prices well below hometown prices.
Overall Good Stay
We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in August 2019 and chose this hotel over the other Holiday Inn in town because my husband had stayed here previously and had great things to say. The staff were very nice but the hotel was just tired. My husband said it was definitely less impressive than a few years ago when he stayed. The room was clean but just tired. The common areas of the hotel were more in need of an update/deep clean. Drip stains in the elevator, dirty seat cushions in the breakfast area, etc. Overall we had no major complaints but we’ve definitely stayed at better HIE’s.
Though situated between the main drag through the area, you wouldn't know it. The hotel was off in the trees and was as quiet as if it were out in the country. Everything is clean and well maintained and in an area with good restaurants and services and shopping so whether you are staying a day or a week you can find everything you need. Hope to be back soon.
