Sketchy and crooked hotel
Stayed here once and had a decent experience. Decided to book it again. When I showed up for my reservation, I was told that I was banned because I smoked in the room. The thing is… I don’t smoke cigarettes. I did not smoke in the room. Something crooked is going on here and I was charged for the reservation I didn’t get to use and I also got hit with a $150 charge. This was like $600. I will be taking legal action and making sure they feel the sting for scamming me and screwing up my birthday trip. I would advise not staying here as there is something off and crooked here.

Lovely hostel-ish experience with an economic price.
Surprisingly excellent hostel. Clean rooms, clean bathroom. Lots of space with really friendly staff. Added bonus that the Pacific standard restaurant is in the lobby. So you can get good food with the money you saved on your overnight stay.

Upsetting and unnerving experience
Had a really unnerving and unpleasant experience with the night manager who refused to acknowledge my confirmed (and paid for) booking and/or help me in any way at 1am. I had never been to Portland before. I was a lone female. I was not allowed to wait in reception to call an Uber to try to find somewhere else and was threatened with security? Really upsetting as my first experience in Portland at a Hostel I thought would be really special.

I didn't know this was possible in a hostel
Except for the thing about sharing the room with other lodgers, hostel-style, this is a swank hôtel. The floors in the one-person-at-a-time bathrooms are marble and the showers provide abundant hot water, the hallways are quiet and feel like a Pacific Northwest lodge should, the restaurant on the first floor (Pacific Standard) is a nice place to hang out even if you never buy anything. The bedrooms are quiet, the windows open, and the furniture is solid enough that having a bunkmate who shifts around won't wake you up. And I didn't think this would be an issue until the last hostel I'd stayed at, but the staff is helpful and doesn't give an air of being annoyed that you're bothering them. I stayed for four days, but felt like I could stay much longer.

The Fabulous Kex
Kex Hotel! Exclamation! My daughter and I stayed this week and everything was 5-stars. David at the front desk was so professional and quietly friendly to us as we’re getting things figured out around the neighborhood. Great location just a block from a bridge to downtown. The place is spotlessly clean (way to go housekeeping, the unsung hero’s of any hotel!). Cool amenities, wonderful down duvets, and delicious smelling soaps and lotions. Their restaurant is 5-stars as well for food, perfecto cocktails, service and gorgeous ambiance. Almost don’t want to post this because it will make it hard for me to get a room in the future!
