The Jupiter is such a cool place to stay!! Friendly, helpful staff, clean and stylish rooms, and awesome location. We really loved drawing on the chalkboard door and hanging out in the communal areas. 10/10 highly recommend (and we hope to be back!)!

Family fun in Portland
Awesome location and staff. Walkable with good food and coffee/drinks near by. Some proximity to unhoused people, but never felt unsafe. Overall great stay.

Great location, friendly staff, feels like family here in a gay way which is excellent. When the music venue was open it was even better--I hope it comes back.

Worn and Weary
I have stayed in The Jupiter several times over the last decade and this might be my last. This time I stayed again in the older Motel part and genuinely feel like they need to rename, revamp, or do something that separates the experiences. The motel is a bare bones motel, which I don't have a problem with and stay at motels often, but it had less amenities than a typical cheap motel. I felt like I had to meet the room and staff halfway for things that should be standard for a stay. The quirk of the worn out chalkboard paint and pixelated murals are working double-time to try and keep you from noticing the broken/missing fridges, broken cheap soap dispensers, and thin walls. Only during checkout was I let known there was coffee available in the building across the street, felt about right.

They Charged Me While I Slept. In My Own Home. After Checkout.
Great location, clean room, lovely renovated bathroom. That is genuinely where the good news ends. Parking requires showing up in person at 11am to claim a spot. If you have, say, a job or a conference, good luck. The front desk staff were efficient in the way a tollbooth is efficient: functional, but nobody's thrilled to be there. The room in the "old" Jupiter had no iron (prompt delivery on request), no sound insulation, and no openable windows. It did have a fridge packed with $14 kombucha and enough candy to host a children's birthday party. Priorities were made clear. The AC had two settings: louder or Jet Engine. Without it, the room reached a humidity level best described as alive. It also smelled of mold, which tracks. The billing was a creative experience. On May 3rd they sent me a full invoice showing a May 3rd departure, which sent me scrambling to call and confirm they hadn't checked me out a day early. They hadn't. That invoice simply had zero dollars charged. Then, 16 hours after I checked out at 6:30am on the 4th, a new invoice arrived at 10:30pm, same line items, and this time with an undisclosed fee quietly added. All of this after I had already filled out their satisfaction survey. When I asked for a refund, I was offered 10% off a future stay by an anonymous staff member. I will not be having a future stay. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm reasonably sure that's not how consumer protection works. Save yourself the trouble and book somewhere that tells you what you owe before you leave.
