Spread out over 250 wooded acres on the Central Oregon Coast, Salishan Coastal Lodge by SCP Hotels is the ideal setting to spend time with friends, especially if you want to strengthen your connections while nourishing your mind, body and spirit.

With welcoming accommodations adorned in locally sourced wood and earthy decor, this sprawling property between Lincoln City and Newport blends in beautifully with its natural surroundings. All rooms have fireplaces and balconies, and are stocked with eco-friendly toiletries. There are even a couple of two- and three-bedroom suites perfect for groups or larger families. Salishan also places a heavy emphasis on respecting the sanctity of Mother Earth, from eco-friendly cleaning products down to free charging stations for guests with electric vehicles.

Here’s how to make the most of your stay.

Bond With Your Buddies on the Green

Salishan Golf Links has long been a favorite destination for golfers and attracts hotel guests and day visitors alike (just make sure to reserve ahead of time). This 18-hole, 71-par course keeps its emeraldine hues thanks to recycled water and good old-fashioned rainfall. The course is undeniably beautiful, with seaside views flanked by some of the giant windswept trees for which the Oregon Coast is known.

Never teed off in your life? Not to worry: Individual and small-group golf lessons can help you quickly get up to par. There’s even an indoor golf simulator for wet weather. Or engage in a little friendly competition sans clubs by playing a fun lawn game on Salishan’s expansive greenspace below the fire pits.

Get Active and Adventurous

Want to boost your heart rate and let off some steam? Get active together at one of Salishan’s many on-property sports, adventure and fitness amenities. Along with a massive indoor swimming pool and a fitness center complete with Peloton bikes, Salishan offers a year-round indoor tennis center where you can play a match or try your hand at pickleball.

For the ultimate adrenaline boost, visit Salishan’s aerial park, which features 15 platforms and 20 elements, including a vertical ladder climb that rewards brave adventurers with views from 70 feet in the air. There’s also a mountain bike skills course with bike rentals for the exceptionally daring in your group.

Commune With Nature

If you prefer something a little calmer but still want to get your steps in, head out for a stroll along one of the property’s four nature trails (maps are available at the front desk). While you’re exploring, keep your eyes peeled for multihued glass floats tucked away in nooks and crannies. Every morning, staff members hide colorful, handblown glass baubles around the property for guests to discover. If you find one, you’ll get to take it home with you as a souvenir of your stay. You can also borrow a bicycle and take a trail ride down to the beach to take in views of the Pacific Ocean. While Salishan’s cruiser bikes are easy to ride on the sand, there’s also a bike-parking area so that you can leave your ride aside and enjoy the beach on foot.

Slow Down and Relax

Although it’s easy to be active at Salishan, this peaceful lodge is equally well suited to chilling out with friends, whether in the poolside hot tub or from the comfort of an Adirondack chair next to the outdoor fire pit.

For the ultimate in relaxation, book an appointment for you and your friends at The Spa at Salishan. Along with massages and facials, this adults-only wellness space offers exfoliating body scrubs, renewing body wraps and even a special sleep treatment designed to prepare you for a long night of uninterrupted shut-eye. After your treatment, meet your friends or loved ones at the spa’s outdoor infinity hot tub, or cozy up with a cup of tea and conversation as you take in views of Siletz Bay from the recovery room. Personalized hatha yoga instruction is also available.

Treat Your Palate and Nourish Your Body

After a day of fun with friends, relax and refuel at The Attic. A menu focused on locally sourced, healthful ingredients includes delicious and nutritious choices like Cobb salad or jackfruit tacos. Grab a seat on the heated outdoor patio to take in views of the sprawling property, or request a table next to the massive fireplace for an extra-cozy experience. Seating for up to eight people is available — just make sure to reserve ahead of time as this spot is popular with guests and locals alike.

In line with Salishan’s ethos, the menu emphasizes sustainability, offering plant-forward dishes featuring as many locally and sustainably sourced and organic ingredients as possible. Here you’ll find healthier interpretations of traditional pub fare (think barbecue jackfruit sliders), along with lighter options like chevre-topped beet tartare and tuna poke. Pair your meal with a craft cocktail or a glass of Willamette Valley wine, a matcha mocktail or some salted hot cocoa.

This same focus on sustainability extends to Provisions Market, where you can get grab-and-go meals along with snacks and souvenirs, many of which are made by area artists or producers. It’s also a perfect place to grab a breakfast of cinnamon French toast or savory huevos rancheros with your group before heading out for a day filled with restorative coastal adventure.
