Hayward Field

The newly renovated Hayward Field at the University of Oregon is a world-class track & field facility.

Fans enjoy unobstructed sight lines throughout, great acoustics, proximity to athletes and spacious seating. The multi-story landmark tower features a lobby filled with interpretive exhibits, an observation deck, viewing areas, elevator, and a staircase to the top. The 40,000-square-foot Hayward Hall provides a museum-style experience with tributes to Historic Hayward Field and prior events, coaches and athletes.

Completed in 2020, the venue seats 12,000 (expandable to 25,000) and includes modern locker rooms, an equipment room, video room, weight room, indoor practice area, and training and sports medicine facilities.

Heart of TrackTown USA!

It was a bucket list item to see Hayward. Really, it would have been amazing to see the old one but the remodel, being the heart of TrackTown USA, is plenty amazing. As it turns out, I worked the 23 Pre Classic and even got to run the media race. A lap around the famous track!! Very modern facility now. The colored seats are supposed to represent the colors of Oregon and make it appear more full, but more important to spectators, those are all padded seats!! Given it's size, not really a bad seat in the house. The low wall near the giant screen is great for viewing events up close but you'll miss the finish line. Several bathroom facilities, several water bottle refill stations (free!), and lots to look at in and around the stadium. Great place! Not sure of parking situation but you're on the campus so, if on a weekend, you might be in the clear to park just about anywhere. I tucked in to the lot of the little museum near the stadium and it was a great short walk over and back.

To see the World Athletic Championships

Living in Oregon this was a great opportunity to see the best in the world. From the first event of the evening to the last evening went off without a hitch. The views from our seats were terrific. I would recommend getting sitting on the shade side when the event is hot and during daylight hours. Getting in and out was easy and the parking was uneventful (as it should be). Overall if you have a chance to go to this stadium for an event viewing take th opportunity.

The USA holy ground of T&F

I was here for all 10 days of the World Track and Field Championships as a spectator. Arguably a trip of a lifetime. First time I've been here, but the facility had a major makeover in the last 2+ yrs. It is easily a world class arena for T&F. Seats are comfy, adequate legroom (and I was recoverying from knee surgery). My review is of the stadium itself, and not the 5-star event of the WTFC. Pretty hard to find a bad seat in the place (at least for the permanent seating) as I was all around the stadium for the 10 days. Your preferred location will depend on how you want to watch T&F. Why isn't it 5-stars then? First of all, for anybody that's on a restrictive diet like myself; it was very hard to find something I could eat. We were not allowed to bring ANY food or beverage (including water!) into the stadium. I went to all of the eating places inside the stadium and on the grounds inside the entry area. Second of all, and this is the big thing, there is no cold water in the stadium. We were told to bring a refillable water bottle, which virtually everybody did. However, the water from the fountains was room temperature, not cold, or even really cool. The coldest water fountains were inside the stadium, not the entry area (section 213 had the coolest water), but it only hydrated you and did not quench your thirst. I had no problem with the high prices that were being charged as I understand the economics of the event. However, the only way to get COLD water, was to buy a souvenir cup with an iced drink (water is one of the drinks) for $7.50. I'm not paying $7.50 for a 24 oz of cold water. Remember, the sun can be quite oppressive in July or August. The shady side if the East side in the morning and the West side in the afternoon.

The New Hayward Field is awesome

We came to Eugene this July for the 2022 World Athletics Championships. The new Hayward Field (Tripadvisor's website needs new photos as the old facility is pictured) is an awesome venue for track & field. I can't think of any place better to watch T&F. The permanent seating is comfortable with cushioned seats and backrest (I'm glad I didn't pay for tickets in the temporary seating area which are bleachers only). The sightlines are great and the Jumbotron lets you see the action when it is on the other side of the track. The meet organization was terrific with lots of volunteers to assist fans. Of course, the competition was A+. I look forward to returning to Eugene and Hayward Field for future world-class competitions. The one thing Eugene needs to support events like this is more hotel rooms.
