We Love to Paddle Flatwater & This Paddle was Great
The water was great. The scenery was terrific. I thought the trail was well marked. The only "issue" we had was that we were going to paddle "up" from the Rocky Point Boat Launch (where we rented the canoe) about 4 mile. But, because of a beaver dam and low water, we couldn't paddle the entire "length" of the canoe trail.

Not for inexperienced boaters, unless you take the shoreline trail
The markers for the trail are almost non-existent once you pass the shoreline. If you do the basic trail they are pretty good, the full loop, good luck. Very easy to get lost looking for passage ways through the marsh. The good ratings are from those who do not venture the entire loop, which is over 9 miles. It is beautiful out there, but if you get caught with the wind against you, it is almost impossible to fight the wind and currents. There were no other kayaks out there, and it easy to take an unmarked channel for half a mile to find it ends in overgrowth and shallow water. The signage is decades old and miles without any signs. No mile markers except for the beginning route. The full loop is hard core and only for strong kayakers and not beginners. The Wolcott cut trail is extremely wide, exposed to very strong wind, and void of markers, with dozens of false possibilities, and very shallow and full of lillies. With maintenance, this could be an amazing place, sadly it is void of any maintenance whatsoever. If you can endure this trail, you can endure anything. Do not expect anyplace to portage and rest, or go to the bathroom, it is mud and swamp everywhere. If you can handle 5-6 hours in your boat then you will be ok.

Four hours of fun!
Enjoyed this canoe trail on a kayak! It was long and exciting to be on the lake for ~4 hours. Loved it, will do it again!

Canoeing marshlands in wildlife refuge
Amazing serene experience canoeing marshlands with magnificent views of Crater Lake rim and Mt McLoughlin. Fantastic bird watching: white pelicans, bald eagles, marsh hawks, terns and swallows. Red and green wocus water lilies grow along the edges of the marsh. You can rent canoes at Rocky Point Resort.

Great place to kayak/canoe with kids
Our family of 2 adults and 11 & 9 years olds came here to explore the trail. Great location to kayak/canoe; despite paddling parallel to the road it was beautiful and quiet (I believe motor boats are restricted on this national trail?). We saw plenty of birds, jumping fish and a beaver. We rented the kayaks from the nearby Rocky Point Resort, although their boat prices (available online) are a bit inflated IMHO. You can also eat at the restaurant there afterwards (Try their "Moscow Mule" mixed drink.)
