Alpine Trail #3450

The 9 mile Alpine Trail starts at 3,200 ft. elevation and ends at 4,784. It is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horses.

The trail climbs through timber and passes through several open rocky meadows. After the Tire Mountain Trail turns off to the left (west), the trail crosses a series of scenic meadows with views to the south and east. When you reach the trailhead on Forest Road 1911, proceed approximately 0.5 mile along it and Forest Road 1910 to reach Forest Road 1912 and the next trailhead. You will climb up over a knob and then descend back to Forest Road 1912. Cross the road and continue up to Sourgrass Mountain, where in midsummer, where the white blooms of beargrass surround you. The trail then descends to and crosses Forest Road 1824-291. It weaves its way through marshy meadows and stands of true fir, passes by the Elk Camp Shelter and ends at the junction of Forest Roads 1825 and 1912.

The forest visitor can enter or exit the trail at any of the road crossings. The trailhead at Forest Road 5821 has limited vehicle parking. The junction with the trail on Forest Road 1912 has lots of parking space.

The Alpine Trail section from the junction with the Tire Mountain Trail to Forest Road 683 is a part of the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail system.
