An impressive stately home from the former richest man in town
What makes visiting this house so special is that you do not just see a grand home, you genuinely feel the history behind it. It is definitely worth watching the short 13-minute video where you buy the tickets before entering the house itself. You learn so many fascinating details about the man who became the richest person in town, helped develop the area, and built this magnificent retirement home for himself, only to live in it for a very short time before he sadly passed away. The house itself is impressive throughout and gives a real sense of the era and the life that was lived there. Definitely recommended, and the entrance fee is also exceptionally good value for money.

Neat piece of town history!
Good for a rainy day, would be beautiful to see in the sunshine. A neat stop for history, architecture, and the garden! Enjoyed the art and many fireplaces throughout the house!

Astoria must do museum
The Flavel House hadn't been on our list of things to see in Astoria, but our daughter saw it when we did the movie museum, and really wanted to go. We did, and no regrets. I would say a highlight of our stay in Astoria. This historic mansion is beautifully well kept, with some original furnishings, and some were donated (they keep binders of what was donated and you can read the histories of those pieces). Definitely recommend hitting this museum if coming to Astoria. Has a small part in the Goonies movie, if that's your jam. There is some group package discount for the mansion, the movie museum, and I believe the Heritage Museum.

An excellent museum to go through! A beautiful house with many of the older items still there!
We did a couple of the museums in Astoria, and I have to say, this one was my favorite! You buy your tickets toward the back of the property at the Carriage House, then come back to the front of the main house where the walking tour begins. Be sure to look into the mirrors at the very beginning in the entrance foyer as what they show is pretty mind boggling! The woman there pointed them out to me as we were leaving as I hadn't noticed them before! In this museum, you can actually get very close to many of the original items that were used by the family in this home. It was quite well done! We had brought a lunch with us and we ate outside at a picnic table close to a darling fish pond in the yard. The lily pads on the water were blooming and just gorgeous! They also had plants and flowers all around the property that were also blooming! Well worth a visit!!

Best Enjoyed From The Outside
We found this house is best enjoyed from the outside. The houses beauty is clearly on the outside. The gardens are very calming & grounding. Take your shoes off & feel the earth underneath the soles of your feet, close your eyes & chill out.
