Valley Bronze of Oregon has been in continuous production at its foundry facility located on W. Alder Street in Joseph, Oregon, since 1982. Starting as a small bronze art casting facility serving local artists with less than a dozen employees, Valley Bronze added a monument facility in 1987, with the extra space, ceiling height, and equipment to accommodate larger bronze sculptures and major art casting and fabrication projects.

Do not miss this--hidden jem
We arrived early thinking that no one else would be there--wrong. There were four other couples waiting for the tour to start. This was a most fascinating place to visit. The guide took us though all of the phases of creating a bronze statue--very intricate. These are the guys that did all of the bronze for the WWII memorial. The work that is necessary is staggering. If you are luck, they will be pouring molten bronze while you are there--not to be missed.

Our lucky day! We got to see actual pouring of molten bronze!!
They offered an amazing tour of the foundry, and later told us that of all the many tours they have done over the past 20 years or so, we were one of a very few groups to actually experience the pouring of the molten bronze into the molds! It was an extremely hot area where this was done, and the three men working with the molten bronze were all wearing very heavy gloves and full body protection as well as face and eye protection. They said the bronze is heated to 2000 degrees! Our tour guide clearly explained the process from start to finish, and everyone on the tour was fascinated by what he showed us. Our tour included young boys, twins, who were celebrating their 6th birthday that day, so it's a tour for young and old alike!!

Excellent tour featuring fine art bronze pieces
This was an excellent and informative tour of a fine art foundry that produces beautiful bronze sculptures. You get to see each step of the process and the friendly, knowledgeable guide is very good at explaining the process. You’re encouraged to ask lots of questions about the process and you get to watch various artisans working on the different steps. The tour lasts about an hour. Highly recommended!
