We have been trying different restaurants every time we visit our daughter in college in Salem. I really wanted to like Wild Pear. They have prime rib (hubbys fave) so I figured it was gonna be a good place for us. Service was slow- I ordered an iced tea which was made with some kind of fruity tea that I didn’t like. I asked to just have water instead and never got any. Ended up stealing my husbands water so I had some thing to drink. We ordered the lobster stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer but never got them. My daughter and husband both ordered prime rib which came with some sort of strange concoction on top. We determined it was au jus but none of us had ever seen it look like that! Congealed. Almost like blood. It was very off putting in sight and texture although it tasted fine. What’s weird was how cold the prime rib was. Like it had been sitting around for a few hours. But the baked potato was scalding hot. Anyway just not that great a meal for them. I had the wild pear salad with chicken which was pretty good. Hard to mess up salad! They were nice enough to gift us the desserts we ordered for free because of the missing appetizer. That was the saving grace as the deserts were yummy! Berry cobbler and bread pudding. The bread pudding was one of the best I’ve ever had and I have them everywhere I go. Just excellent! Pretty much the only reason I will go back lol.

This is a charming restaurant in downtown Salem. My Asian chicken salad was good although I wished I had asked for the dressing on the side and it had more greens. My husband's chicken Caesar wrap was delicious.

Bad Timing
After searching, we narrowed our dinner plans down to two restaurants. We ended up at this one. We had a very nice waitress, and the food was decent. We got there a few hours before closing and yet the manager had everybody cleaning everything up as it they were leaving in 10 minutes. Because of that our waitress wasn’t able to give us her full attention. It really wasn’t her fault. The desserts looked fabulous but honestly, we felt like we were being hurried out by the manager, so we decided not to get dessert there. Would I go there again? Probably. Not at dinner but possibly lunch.

Stopped in for dinner on the way to a concert. Let them know we were short on time, and they quickly took our orders, brought the food, and (after asking if we wanted that), brought the bill early. Excellent service. And the food was delicious, plentiful. Salad was fresh and bright with a lot of chicken; rice bowl was warm and cozy. We will be back when not rushed!

Order Caesar salad with flank steak. Salad was so soggy, lettuce was limp like it had been prepared sometime earlier in the day and sat in the heat for a long while. Very disappointed.
