A favorite of locals and visitors alike, the Wayfarer is the perfect spot for romance, great food and quality service – all with a beautiful Pacific Ocean view.
Great food. Dirty floor. Slow Service.
I love the Wayfarer and have been many times, but this past Saturday when my husband and I who are locals went in for breakfast, we were sat by the manager and when I looked around, the carpeting was filthy — lettuce under the table next to me and crumbs all over the floor. Clearly the floors had not been vacuumed from the night before. Our sugar holder was completely empty. The food was good but we waited around and never got coffee refills and were just ignored as our waiter had disappeared. The busboy was nice but we finally had to flag another waiter down to ask for our check and he said our waiter had an emergency and had to leave and he pulled our check out of his apron and gave it to us. Thankfully the bathroom was clean (you could smell the cleaner), but there was just a lack of attention to detail that morning which was surprising considering the manager was on site — although I did see him grabbing his backpack and going in and out. Have to say dinner is the best meal here. Was here for lunch two weeks before and the menu is severely lacking. Breakfast food was good and so many choices but walking in at 8:45 am and seeing a filthy floor is just off putting. I know the hotel is having a renovation but the restaurant can use some updating too.
Perfect meal, perfect view, perfect service
Alexandra took absolutely stellar care of us! We enjoyed an early dinner at Wayfarers midweek and she gave us too-notch service! Highly recommend the bay shrimp ceviche, and the ribeye was cooked to medium rare perfection❤️
Great food and service
Great spot, the clam chowder and Manila clams are amazing. The service was great and friendly. Alex was very friendly, we definitely recommend.
Outstanding Food, Service and View!
Have been to the Oregon coast, but never Cannon Beach. So my wife and I went here for dinner on the last night of a three night stay. We arrived around 5:00 p.m., which is early dinner time for us. we were the first to be seated, so got terrific view seating by the window looking out at Haystack Rock. Our server Alexandra was great...friendly, conversive, professional. We began dinner with the Pulled Pork Poutine appetizer ($20): French fries mounded with delicious tender pork, cheese curds, and wonderful pork gravy. Had we known that dish was so large and filling, we might not have ordered entrees! For dinner, my wife ordered the Alaskan halibut ($40), a thick, perfectly cooked large piece of fish, which she said was wonderful (and her dad was a halibut fisherman for years!). I chose the two huge razor clam dinner ($40): lightly breaded and absolutely delicious...likely the best, most tender razor clams I've ever had. Both entrees were accompanied by roasted red potatoes, sweet winter squash and shredded Brussels sprouts. All superb! All of these offerings were accompanied by a bottle of A to Z Oregon Pinot Gris ($54). This meal was a giant splurge for us, but well worth the expense. We hope to return again soon.
A surprising disappointment
Long weekend winters at Cannon Beach have become a family tradition. We love to stay at Surf Sand Resort and Wayfarer is right there. Every past meal has been fantastic, but our most recent dinner was disappointing. The service continues to be top notch, but the food—namely the steaks (filet & ribeye) was not what we’ve come to expect. The flavor, quality, and preparation were simply poor. A year ago the ribeye was served with a perfect brown crust on the steak, a smoky romesco sauce, and garlicky roast potatoes. Every bite was flavorful and it was a wonderful, coherent dish worth every penny of the splurge. This year the ribeye was grey with faint grill lines, served with mushy, bland brussel sprouts and undercooked squash - the same “seasonal vegetables” that came with the filet, another altogether disappointing dish. The filet that, a year ago, was tender and delicious, was now tough and under seasoned. That it was served with the same bland sides as the ribeye gave the impression that somewhere, someone was seriously cutting corners. It’s sad to see a cherished restaurant go down so markedly in quality and yet keep prices the same. Our server was responsive and made things right; but they shouldn’t have had to do so. The Wayfarer used to be a standout of the Oregon coast, a dining experience that delivered every dollar’s worth of its relatively high cost - a worthy splurge to celebrate a beautiful location. But sadly, it seems we cannot currently recommend the Wayfarer given this unfortunate new direction. We’ve not written Wayfarer off—it is our sincere hope it can find its way back to the level of quality it once had.
