GOOD FOOD, POOR MANAGEMENT
My husband and I ate at Sorella’s last night, which is a local restaurant we truly enjoy. The reason for the poor review is not the food, it’s our view of poor management decisions and perhaps restaurant procedures. the mis-management of customer expectations. We had decided to share a pizza, but couldn’t decide between the “Diablo” at $25 and the “Pepperoni” at $21, so we asked our waiter if we could do one half of the pizza as Diablo and the other half as Pepperoni. He said that we could. The pizza came and was very good. And then we received the check. The price for the pizza was $35!!! When we asked the waiter why it was $10 more than the higher priced Diablo pizza at $25, a maximum of $25 (for the Diablo) he said that it had to be priced as a “custom, price per item” pizza and that came to $35. Huh? The guy that makes the pizzas probably makes between 50 to a 100 pizzas per shift. He knows exactly what 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 Diablo would mean. (There was an issue with the two different pizzas using two different bases… so I told the waiter to choose one for the entire pizza… keep it simple.) I told the waiter that a $10 bump in price would have been good to know when we ordered the pizza, not when we got the check. We would have ordered only one pizza type. He was apologetic and asked if he could comp us a dessert to make up for the misunderstanding, which sounded fair to us as an effort to correct the situation. He came back a few minutes later, not with dessert, but with the message the his manager couldn’t let him comp us dessert. We are very disappointed in how Sorella’s managed this situation. There should not have been a $10 increase in price (approximately 50%) just to have a pizza divided into two versions. Enumerating the ingredients on pizzas made by the hundreds doesn’t create a “custom” pizza. Charge the cost of the higher side… the Diablo. Earn the $4 difference over the cheaper pepperoni… $21. But don’t screw your customer. In summary, the food is good, but beware. You may be as surprised as we were when the bill arrives..

A Wonderful Date Night and Lunch Leftovers
The food was delicious and we had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. The gelato is so great! If you are too full after dinner have them prepare some to go!

Disappointed
We got take out for dinner and were disappointed. Place smelled great when we entered but food was decidedly mediocre. Lettuce in our Caesar salad was fresh but otherwise not much to it. Barata was much the same. The Vodka pasta dish had very little sauce and tasted bland. The Terimisu was good but we only ate half of everything else.

Better like Nonna!
We were in town for one night, as a breakup of the drive up the coast. While checking in at the hotel down the road, the Inn at Nye Beach, we asked the receptionist for dinner recommendations, as we didn't have any firm plans in that regard. She suggested if we were up for a walk, Sorella was an easy couple blocks down the road. While it was a bit windy and I was indifferent to having Italian that night (husband on the other hand loves Italian), we thought, why not? Great choice; great suggestion. I had the vodka pasta, and husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. Sorella makes their own pasta, and the quality shows in every bite. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and had a sauce that was better than homemade (don't tell Nonna!!). This meal was a fantastic end to an already enjoyable sightseeing day.

Yikes
Ok, the good stuff before the hammer is dropped We have been to sorella several times and it has always been good. Tonight the server was fast and polite, my spaghetti and meatballs was a good quality dish. The brutal: My spouse ordered the lasagna. The menu indicates that it is not a traditional lasagna. Well...when it arrived at the table, it was painfully obvious it certainly wasn't. The plate was a gelatinous mess of soft mushy goo. She let me try it and in my opinion, this is the worst menu item that I have ever eaten. The sauce was of some cream base and if there were noodles in it, we could not identify them. Seriously they need to go back to a traditional lasagna Bolognese and forget they ever offered this one. Sorry Sorella, this was your swan song for us.
