On our last night in Brookings after a weeks stay we decided to try Oxenfre. We were greeted quickly and seated, our waiter, Jack was very energetic and seemed to truly enjoy his job. We placed our order for drinks and an appetizers, tempura deviled eggs. Again quickly arrived and the drinks were very good, but the deviled eggs were to die for. During this time we ordered our entrees, Korean short ribs and shrimp and grits. The short ribs that my wife had were yummy and full of flavor. Now, I am a lover of shrimp and grits, having lived in North Carolina previously. I have to say these were as good or better than any I have had. So after all of this, I guess I’m saying, try it you’ll like. And ask for Jack, he’s great!!!
Dark bar/restaurant. Menu was quite interesting & at first glance a bit too Oregon hip/chic for my husband but I kept reading. Convinced him to try the chicken posole & I had the fish tacos. They were both excellent. Lots of flavors that worked well together.
My wife and I went there for dinner. The food was awesome and the service was terrific. If we’re ever back in Brookings, OR we will surely be back to visit.
Best all around for drinks and snacks and dinner!
Love this place. The staff is great! The food is so yummy and very high quality. During the off season the pub does a wonderful HAPPY HOUR with the most tasty margaritas and draft beers from all over! The chicken waffle sandwich is my fav!!! The fries are very addicting. Sonya and Elias have a hit a home run with the OX!
A Special Place For Us
We vacation in the Brookings/Jed Smith Redwoods once a year and we enjoy dining at the Oxenfre. We got married in the Jed Smith Redwoods May of 2018 and had just a small private family ceremony. We all came to the Oxenfre afterward for dinner. This May my husband and I came up (From San Diego) to celebrate our anniversary, so of course we ate at the Oxenfre as a remembrance and also because we love their food. One of our favorite places to eat in all our travels.
