Lovejoy's Restaurant & Tearoom is an authentic tearoom in Historic Old Town Florence. They offer an excellent selection of English teas as well as a food menu that is sure to delight with items such as salmon bisque, a variety of tea sandwiches, quiche, scones, salads, traditional English pub fare as well as a variety of changing weekly specials. Also, take part in a High Tea that features a pot of tea, starter course, tea sandwiches, scones followed by a tea biscuit and then a tiny dessert cake.

We stopped in for a cup of tea for my better half when we visited Oregon last month. Cute little shop, good tea, can't say much for the small sandwiches. They only have one overworked waitress, tired and visibly unhappy to be there, thus the be patient sign. Thought my large tip might change her attitude, it didn't.

In Old town on Nopal off Bay Street (one block up Nopal). Street parking. Two steps to enter (no ramp), Two rooms, one a sitting kind of room and one the restaurant portion. Most of restaurant is elevated (one step up). Cute cushy chairs, fantastically wonderful table settings, the daintiest teacups and little teapot salt and pepper shakers, table cloths, bright room, Some for sale items ring the area. Not a gift shop per se, just some teacups with candles in them kind of thing. Food was fresh and flavorful. Unique British menu. It fell short on service, however. It appeared to have only one employee who was waitress, cashier, and maybe even chef. Service was perfunctory. She had a stained or dirty Union Jack apron that was off putting. Perhaps overworked or understaffed, she came around briefly got the order, disappeared, then came with the food, then the bill. It wasn't that busy (11am on a Tuesday) so I can only imagine the scramble when the rush hits. Unsure whether there was a staff person in the sitting room. It could be improved by having a little gift shop, I think. Two tables were ground level for those disabled, but there were the stairs issues for wheelchairs or those on crutches. It gets high marks for food, medium marks for atmosphere, average for pricing. They could probably sell those teacups for big money, they were adorable. Maybe some classical music or something rather than rock, might make the mood a tad more English. Good but with room for improvement.

Very loud. The piano, guitar and drums in such a small place made it too loud to relax and enjoy our lunch. I took my daughter as she was visiting from out of town for my birthday for high tea. We were not able to hold a conversation and felt like we were screaming at each other to talk. The place has incorporated more of a pub vibe than when I was last there a few months ago. The band played Freak, and some songs from Journey. They were out of the teas we ordered, the food was still good and the servers friendly. Our server never asked if we wanted desert or anything else but left our bill at our table while we were still eating. I was hoping we could order something for a desert for my birthday, but we just paid and left. I enjoyed this place in the past because of the quiet, cozy atmosphere but things always change.

Our group of friends have a history with Lovejoy's and have loved it. It went under new ownership, and that often is not for the best....but alas, we love the new owner! She has expanded things and has brought a new flair to Lovejoy's!!! Great food and fun! We are looking forward to our next visit soon!!! Dian

Posh with Personality!
The food here is GOOD. It's authentic. It's delicious. You will feel welcomed and want to eat everything. Be prepared to take your time and enjoy, as the service is not speedy, but why rush a good thing? The (new) owner is a bit raucous but welcoming and you'll feel like her new best friend. Don't let anything stop you from trying this place once! Delicious sausage rolls and tasty baklava! Did I mention the scones with clotted cream (yum)?
