We were staying overnight in Newport en route to Portland and had a taste for Mexican food. The reviews were good, so we stopped here. The place was packed, which is generally a good sign. Pretty sure they were locals who knew the place well. It took a good 10 minutes for anyone to notice us and twice that before we had water at the table. Our drinks came later, which was when the server took our order. This place doesn't serve ground beef, so I settled on the taco that came on the side of my husband's burrito dinner. The chips and two salsas at the table were fine, but skimpy on the salsas. The dinner was OK, but also skimpy on lettuce and pico on the taco. But again, service was remarkably slow. I asked for additional lettuce and never got it. There are other Mexican restaurants in town, which I suggest trying ahead of this one.
Athletic Mexican for Oregon. Asked a local for a Mexican restaurant that’s real. They said definitely La Roca on 9th street. Well they were right. Great food in a very cheerful, clean atmosphere. The service couldn’t be better. I really rate this little place very highly. And that’s not like me to do.
I always struggle with these kinds of reviews. I very much enjoyed my tacos, my brother scarfed down his burrito, and the service was terrific. What I think of reviewing a place like La Roca is a review I saw for Newport Cafe (another local restaurant) that was 1 star. The person was unhappy with their prime rib and her husband didn't like some other seafood dish I'd never think to order at a diner. It's a diner, not a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Anyway, great spot for some tasty grub that won't break the bank.
Love getting dinner from here. Authentic Mexicon food and can even watch the footy (soccer) occasionally! :D Scrub up on your Spanish though! haha
Love this place! Great food and drinks! My picky family always walks away happy. Sometimes there is great service=)
