Mesquite grill Mexican restaurant. Open in downtown Salem since 1984. Hand made corn and flour tortillas. Fresh salsas, made daily.
They forgot the herbs and spices
Four of us went here for my birthday last week. The only one who was pleased with the food was the person who was afraid it might be too hot for her taste. The rest of us found it VERY bland and lacking in flavor. We had chili relenos and enchiladas. I'm told that even the salad was ho-hum. As for the margaritas, the blended ones, serves in a highball glass, were difficult to drink but at least they didn't skimp on the alcohol. But overall we were very disappointed, considering the good reviews we had read. New cook? Bad day??
Our Favorite Salem Restaurant
Delicious food, tasty drinks - especially the Pedro's Margarita, and the best staff in town who always make us feel like family.
Great food and service.
I hadn't visited here for years, so I was eager to see if it was as good as I remembered. I was hoping for jicama instead of the commonly served chips, but no jicama. The chips and salsa were good though. I ordered a chili relleno, and it was excellent! The black beans were wonderfully seasoned. The only real disappointment was the margarita, made with top shelf tequila, but the mixer(s) they used gave it an unappealing taste. Too bad. I will definitely return for another relleno!
Very good authentic Mexican
A short 3 block walk from the Grand Hotel. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, including our vacation to Mexico.
Went with large group, not that good.
The only reason I am giving this an average is I went with a very large group, and had to order off the banquet menu. The chille reneos were poor and the enchilada were average. The ritas were watered down. The service was good. I would not go back. Salsa was excellent.
