They need help.
We were seated right away wherever we liked. After our friends were seated and we waited about 15 minutes we had to hail the waitress to take our order. She then informed us that normally orders are taken at the register, much to our surprise. She took our orders verbally. Well, we waited over 1 hour to be served after asking a few times and seeing other people who had arrived after us get served. Ultimately the food was very good and small in quantity. Rice was extra. I had Hyderabad lamb and a mango Lassi. Chicken coconut koorma was my husband's dish. Also an order of the garlic nan. Again, we had to keep asking for each thing we ordered. Ultimately the food was very good. They are seeking a chef and a front desk person. The sooner the better.

Terrible Service
They make you pay and tip first. Then the food took well over an hour. They gave no warning beforehand and no apology. I won't be back.

Holding its own through COVID! Excellent southern Indian food.
WE last visited in 2019, and we were so glad HImani is still open and serving excellent food! Note: The restaurant hours are unusual -closed friday night through Sunday for religious reasons. Uttapam is still one of our favorite southern Indian dishes, a lentil and rice pancake. Sothern Indian food is harder to find anywhere in the US, so finding a good uttapam in Astoria was a treat. The vegetarian samosas were also excellent, though a bit pricier than elsewhere.

Good Indian food on the coast
We went for lunch and the food itself was excellent. This is the first time we've had Indian food on the Oregon Coast since moving from California. We had the vegetarian Aloo Gobi mild and Chicken Biryani mild - which used dark meat, and I was very pleased to eat dark meat! There were 2 orders ahead of ours at 11:30AM (one in dining and one takeout), so we probably waited 30 minutes before receiving our food. I reduced the rating to 4 stars since the tip was asked for before the food had been served.

Not the best restaurant
We love Indian food. Especially the naan. We came at 7pm and no more naan for the day so that was a bummer. We ordered at the front right when you walk in which is fine but then they asked me for my tip up front. I really hate tipping first because who knows what kind of service you will get. I'm glad I didn't tip real high because service was slow and sometimes unprofessional. The food we got was delicious but I don't know if I'll go again.
