Disastrous Dining (Beginning to End)
We dined here on Feb 9th (slow restaurant day) and received the worse dining experience ever from beginning to end: 1) we made a reservation through Open Table for 5 PM to this restaurant for a Wedding Anniversary celebration asking if we could sit in a good window table. When we arrived, the Maitre’d said our reservation table was given away and sat us in a window table in the corner of the restaurant. BTW, there were 2 other central window tables that would have been adequate, but she still sat us in the corner of the restaurant, 2) the waiter, Jose, came over and asked if we were ready to order right when we sat down but we did not have adequate time to look at the menu. We asked for more time, but Jose neglected to return to our table until 5 – 10 minutes later, 3) Jose provided bread to us with butter, but he forgot to bring the bread plates, 4) the Crab Cakes we ordered were slightly crispy (edible) when served plus the Steamed Clams were small in portion. In addition, not 1 time did Jose ever come by our table to check on how our food was, 5) we indicated on our reservation that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, however, there was no acknowledgement by anyone from the restaurant personnel of our special evening, 6) when I asked for a water refill from Jose, he forgot all about our request and only remembered when he was interacting with the table behind us, Jose took way too long to refill our water, and finally, 7) when I asked for the check, Jose took a long time to bring it to us. When the check did arrive, we were double charged for the crab cakes and included 2 Iced Teas we never ordered. We’ve dined here before and today was the worse and an embarrassment for a restaurant of this caliber.

Ocean view, good cocktails
Ocean view, good cocktails. My wife had the ribeye which was tender with mouthwatering flavor. I had the raw tuna which was seared and had a flavorful sauce with a salsa . We both had cocktails with my wife having a specialty margarita and I had their own old fashion. They were both out of the ordinary. The Ocean view was a bonus.

Great view, but no reason to eat here after sundown
The view in this place is excellent during daylight hours, but the rest of the experience isn't worth your time or dollar. The food felt on par with what you'd get at a TGI Fridays or other QSR, as did the service. It will work in a pinch, but given the rates charged here it's probably best to go elsewhere. Once it's dark outside, you can't see anything out the windows anyway. Just skip it for dinner. We ordered a pasta dish and a fish n chips. The pasta came out overly sweet, sugar being the dominant note in the sauce. The Fish n Chips - typically something that's easy to hit a certain quality baseline for - was undercooked and rubbery. Service was slow, and the upselling felt aggressive. Our server mentioned it this was the last night they would be "serving bread for free." I get the sense that sort of aggressive price optimization is what defines this restaurant's vision today more than anything else.

Best restaurant in Newport
My black cod was prepared perfectly, as was my husband’s crab stuffed avocado. I think my oyster shooters were still in the ocean that morning! Be sure to ask what’s on the “fresh board” and skip the rest. I think every table has a view of the ocean and it’s gorgeous. We were at the Hallmark Resort, which is attached to the restaurant. If you’re planning to imbibe it’s great to be able to “walk home.”
