The best chowder and ice cream on the coast!
We read about Buttercup in a publication and kept the article. Planning a trip to Manzanita last weekend, we decided to give it a try...and were we glad we did!!! I feasted on the Thai chowder that was heaped full of fresh veggies and flavored perfectly with the experienced hand that knows spices. The ice cream is the best, really, if you enjoy chocolate, try their burnt chocolate. You'll be house shopping to live closer to this amazing find. Yes, it's a small space, but you can always get chowder to go as well as the ice cream (I dare you try to get it home without digging in). We'll be back every time we are in the area.
A must visit
Very creative ice cream flavors. Loved the ice cream and chowder. Very quaint. Many options. You won't be disappointed
A cool, quirky excellent little gem
House made chowders and ice cream. Very imaginative selections. Great quality. The place is small and designed for take-out and can be a bit hard to find, but go. And the town of Nehalem is very cute and right on the river.
Decent Ice Cream but not Great
I had read great things about this place but we were a little disappointed. The ice cream was good and tasted homemade, but the waffle cones were not crispy they were thick and chewy and lacking any real flavor. We had the marshmallow ice cream in what was supposed to be a graham cracker waffle cone dipped in chocolate so that it tasted like a s'more when you ate it. Unfortunately, there was no graham cracker flavor to the cone and not enough chocolate. It may be because they are a gluten free restaurant but the marshmallow ice cream just tasted like homemade vanilla ice cream. We bought a pint of the Pacific NW Chowder and I will say it was the clammiest chowder I ate, You could actually see big pieces of clam, but they put chopped red pepper, dill and what tasted like tarragon, which over powered the chowder. It was also a brothy style of chowder not thick and creamy like New England Chowder, which I prefer. We will probably come back to try other flavors of ice cream, but in a dish not a cone.
Best soup and ice cream on the coast! The Santa Fe chicken chowder is the best soup I've ever had, no exaggeration, it's wonderful.
