If you want to rub elbows with the cowboys right off the range this is the place. It’s a wonderful historic store, cafe & saloon. You can gas up or park your RV here also. Try their sandwiches, pizza, tacos (and more), you won’t be disappointed.

Conversation was Nil
On Highway 140 between Lakeview and Plush you will find the Adel Store - I was so glad to find a gas station before heading to find Sunstones - Unfortunately they were closed so I ended up staying the night and sleeping in my truck. Eager to start of the next day I tried to get gas according to the websites posted hours but no one was available. I finally found a sign that posted their "summer hours opens at 9AM". That was a long wait. The staff was not very conversational and could not give me any help on location. She had a hard time operating the machines and had to make a phone call for help. She was quick to make coffee but gave herself the first cup before giving me some well deserved java. There was another person waiting and he wasn't able to get a conversation either. I decided to eat a protein bar instead of going through more torture with the limited speech helper. The place was decorated with assortments of mounted animals lining the walls with a cougar latching onto a deer. There also were an assortment of branding irons hanging from the ceiling along with various saddles. The decor made up for the speechless help.

The Adel Store was on my Bucket List, and did not disappoint
I am Canadian and love the music of Ian Tyson who writes and sings cowboy songs of the West.Together with a friend from Salem, OR, we were listening to the song ' The MC Horses' and Leon said, "I think the MC Ranch was in Malheur County in eastern Oregon". I listened closely to the song later and picked up the words, ;"If you are ever down at the Adel Store. say hi to Chick and Annie". Well, Chuck and Annie are gone, the store is now a restaurant, but the sense of history is still there, together with good food and a waitress called Katie, the subject of another Tyson song, 'the Navajo Rug' .Visit, enjoy the food, listen to Tyson.s song, The MC Horses, and read William Kittredge"s book, a Hole in the Sky. Kittredge is the grandson of the original owner of the MC Ranch that covered an area as big as Delaware!! and has written a story that is sure to capture your imagination!!

Excellent food and service in interesting historic location.
The Adel Store has been on our radar for a long time thanks to the Ian Tyson song 'MC Horses....' - so glad we got to experience it. Heidi gave us a great breakfast meal and wonderful service. Not to mention bottomless coffee that I REALLY needed...This is a funny out-of the way place but the food is good and it was awesome to see this place holding its own.
