I was looking forward to trying this independent coffee shop, I have owned and operated my own shops in the past, and always try to support the locals. It’s a tiny but cute shop and opens earlier than most. Although there were only a couple of customers in the shop, it took a while to get someone’s attention so I could order a cup of coffee and a blackberry scone. (Which literally had zero blackberries), once she poured my coffee, she set it behind the counter and walked off so I had to ask somebody else to hand it to me. I don’t think my expectations were unreasonable, and I’m always polite and a good tipper. I will say, the coffee was very good, but I don’t think I will go back.
Two events brought us to Coasties. First, the totally forgettable "breakfast" offered by The Whaler "hotel" where we stayed for several days. And second, the recommendation by our server at a restaurant no serious tourist should miss in Newport--the Clearwater. So we headed back up to the Coast Highway just a few blocks from our lodging and voilà right there on the main drag is Coasties. Neat as a pin, clean as a whistle and about as shipshape as you'd ever want to board for your wake-up coffee and a fine coastal mix of start-of-the-day egg sandwiches, scones and simple pastries. That's the "front of the house" part. Backgrounder--Coasties is owned by an Oregon fishing family that takes "scrub the decks" seriously to its land-based coffee shop. Kudos, guys!
Yum! I ordered a white mocha and it was sweet but not over bearing. My husband order a register drip and to quote him “ it’s good”. Their build your own breakfast bagel is AMAZING… better then my small town coffee shop and that’s saying a lot. My husband ordered a build your own burrito… and to quote him “ it was good”
I don't usually leave reviews on coffee houses, but seriously, whatever they are doing to these beans is AMAZING. One of the best lattes I have ever had. Super flavorful bean and smooth roasted. The line was a tad long but worth it. I did not eat anything there but everything I saw coming out to customers looked delicious. Personally, I make my own French pastries and whoever is making theirs does an amazing looking job. I saw large bagel sandwiches and toast piled high with fresh ingredients.
Love the delicious baked goods made fresh for sale. Coffee is good too. Really friendly vibe and love the decor. Will be back!
