Pioneer Park

Brownsville’s Pioneer Park has been in use since the 1840s. The park has been expanded and updated through the years to better serve the public. Pioneer Park is a beautiful 26-acre park, bordered on two sides by the Calapooia River, with ball fields, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a covered dining pavilion with kitchen, summer swimming, a covered amphitheatre and many other features which make the park popular with residents and a favorite destination for many in the surrounding area. During the summer, a limited amount of overnight camping is available.

The well-known and loved “Blueberry Pie Eating Contest” from the film Stand By Me took place in this park. The scene featured nearly 100 Brownsville residents as extras. After filming, the production company donated many picnic tables for use in the park.
