The Chambers Covered Bridge is the last covered railroad bridge in Oregon. It is however, no longer in service. River: Coast Fork of the Willamette Length: 78 feet Year Constructed: 1925 Nearest Town: Cottage Grove Directions: Take Interstate 5 to Cottage Grove exit (174), turn west on Cottage Grove Connection Road to Highway 99 (Ninth Street). Continue south about one mile and turn right on Harrison Street to the bridge at this junction with South River Road.

My husband is enamored with railroads/trains, etc. I'm enamored with covered bridges. This delivered well on both accounts. With exception of being unsure if where we parked on the street was acceptable, this was well worth the stop.

I was honored to be a part of the rebuild of this structure. My crew and myself worked very carefully and with the upmost attn. to detail to complete this structure. All of the timbers were provided by Hull Oaks mill in Monroe, OR. It was part of the contract to have Hull Oaks cut and provide timbers it being one of the last steam powered mills left that could cut such massive timbers along with the historic value of the project. I had the opportunity to visit the mill before the project was underway. That was an experience in itself. My crew was top of the line to say the least. We put a lot of pride in this project to assure it came out perfect. We also had to reuse all steel hardware that was obviously made by hand back in the day. We often spoke about what kind of men first built this bridge and was in awe! Well that's about all I have on this subject for now! If you have a chance to visit this historic place, please keep in mind that crafts such as these needed to build our and keep our history together are fading fast. It takes grit and knowledge to complete this work going! It takes good teachers and young people to listen and learn such a needed craft! Thanks for reading and have a great future! There are several such covered bridges in Cottage Grove, however this one seems to be best preserved. Not much to see, it's a 3 min photo stop. I wouldn't go out of my way to see, but CG is a small town so it was close.

Another great covered bridge.
I definitely give this bridge an excellent rating as it is very well kept, has great signage, and sits in a super nice little park. Super peaceful in the morning light. The railroad motif makes this one special...walking through is spectacular, and the floor has the appearance of railroad tracks. Parking is a little tough with this one. I went over the river and parked in a dead end street that enters the park.
