Nice place to stay
We were looking for a place to stay overnight, rather than drive home after a late dinner in Lincoln City. Glad we found The Whale Inn. Though it's right on the highway, we both slept well and traffic noise wasn't an issue (note this is not tourist season, though). The room was clean and the bed comfortable. We were a little disappointed that our room didn't have the Keurig coffeemaker shown in some of the photos, just a typical drip pot with Bunn style carafe. I usually take my own coffee to motels because of those horrible pots and the stale coffee they provide. The Left Coast coffee provided here was better than most, but there were no instructions on how much to use and it came out super strong. The only other thing I would suggest is to bring a night light for the bathroom. I keep one in my overnight bag because lots of motels have a really dark bathroom and the only light is the super-bright overhead, usually with a fan, which will wake you up for sure if you have to go in the middle of the night. These are small things and don't change my rating. For me the main requirements for a motel stay are that the bed is comfortable and there aren't bright lights shining in the window.

A lovely stay at Depoe Bay
The Whale Inn was just lovely. The room was spacious and the kitchenette was well equipped, coffee maker AND a kettle! As well as the usual microwave and fridge. It also had plates, cups etc. The bathroom was small but not pokey, lots of towels provided and complementaries too. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. I’m not even exaggerating it was that comfy, lol. More importantly the entire space was clean. Instructions were clear and concise, and there is set parking for each room. A short walk into Depoe Bay so we didn’t need to use the car at all. We’d happily stay here again and for longer too.

Cute short stay in Depoe Bay
This tiny (7 room) motel set side-on to the highway in Depoe Bay is beautifully maintained and decorated. It's just a bit too far from downtown to be walkable but right across the road from the Tidal Raves restaurant and the Pirate coffee shop. The king size bed in our unit (#6) was comfy with high end linens but we were glad we brought our own pillows. The bathroom was tiny and had no heat source so winter stays may be chilly but there was lots of shelf space for your things and high end toiletries generously supplied. The kitchenette (no stove) was spotless and had basic dishes for heating leftovers, etc. There was no ice in the freezer and none available on site. Main quibble: no place to eat. There were two low stuffed swiveling chairs which were not as comfy as they looked for older cranky backs and a charming but largely useless credenza under the flat screen TV. They are dog-friendly and provide a cover for furniture. The place was full the night we stayed but we did not hear a peep from the other guests and our room was almost the furthest from the highway so hardly any road noise either. Everything is done remotely so no Covid concerns there. We liked the place but the lack of a place to sit and eat would be a dealbreaker for longer than a night or two.

Wonderful Cute Studio Cottage!
I stayed here for over a week. The bed is super comfy, decor is beautiful and you even have your own mini kitchen with Keurig coffee pot, pods, creamer, etc. So relaxing and in an ideal location in Depoe Bay, close to restaurants, beach access right across the street and stores. And they accept pets!

Above expectations
I NEVER write reviews unless something not only exceeds my expectations but goes beyond my exceeded expectations. My husband and I went with our 6 yo and 2 yo. The room is beautiful, cozy, and kid friendly. The owners communicate professionally and constantly. When suspected that our code for the door wouldn't work, they informed me 3 days prior to arrival with a backup code. They have figured out how to run an efficient establishment without the hassle of dealing with more people than you want to (because extra people, hallway encounters, and potentially lost keys tank vacations). You show up and walk in like it's your own tiny home. The in-room kitchen has the essentials one would need to make meals. There is enough cupboard space and a full sized refrigerator. Sorry to sound repetitive, but efficiency and convenience on a vacation - yes. We will never stay anywhere else when visiting the coast. I am willing to work around their bookings just to stay here on our future vacations.
