It is grand
The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel is top notch. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Bridget shared her personal hair spray with us. One of her colleagues offered to run to the store for us. The free buffet breakfast was among the best I have seen.

Serviceable property in downtown Salem
Really serviceable property in downtown Salem. I'll be honest, the options are pretty slim but this is one that I would stay at again. It is conveniently located in DT Salem, which is very walkable from it's location. Things I liked: Free parking in covered underground garage, quick check in/check out, large rooms, comfortable bed, standard free breakfast buffet. Things I didn't: Outside noise is real from first responder sirens, to loud motor vehicles. Tired hotel with that funky carpet smell in the hallways. Old furnishing in rooms. Mini fridge didn't work until I realized it wasn't plugged in. Dirty toilet with a ring at the water line-actually felt like this room had not been used in while. Breakfast buffet was packed on a Sunday at 9AM with a line out the door to get food. All in all this is a great option for both a business traveler or families. Not 5 stars, but for sure a serviceable 4 stars.

I was pleasantly.....
…surprised to find the Grand Hotel really was rather grand, splendid décor, well-appointed public spaces, a vast underground and very secure carpark and a not-too-bad restaurant to boot. The reception was very welcoming, efficient and correct at every level. My room well-appointed if a little soulless but there was plenty of hot water and big fluffy towels and the bed was comfortable, though the rag-bag of pillows, different sizes and none too new, were not so good. I had a decent dinner and chef even followed the instructions for nothing but a steak and some mashed potato, resisting the urge to add a garnish, thankfully, and accompanied by a very good red from a local winery recommended by the charming server.

Great hotel central to Salem
We stayed a few days at this hotel while we were in town doing some wine tastings. Great central location with a truly incredible staff. Everyone was so friendly. Great breakfast for guests that didn't feel like your usual included hotel fare. Had dinner at Bentley's which is a great asset just off the lobby. Hotel even had a nice small gym with an indoor pool and the super bonus was a clean and inexpensive laundry room. Was nice being able to travel on our next leg of the trip with clean laundry.

A Great Experience
We stopped for 2 days in Salem on our west coast Amtrak trip and wanted to stay downtown since we wouldn't have a car. I picked the Grand Hotel based on the reviews and its charm as a historic hotel. It was everything we expected and more. The staff at the front desk was first class. Always smiling and helpful. Cookies at check-in were nice. The lobby and rooms appear to have new carpet. Everything was nicely decorated and very clean. The complimentary breakfast was much nicer than the typical hotel comp'd breakfast, with changes daily. I'm pretty sure the hotel was full or almost full both nights, but our room on the second floor was quiet and restful. They even provided a white noise machine in the room. Mattress, bedding and pillows were very comfortable and, in fact, I slept better there than I do at home. Walking distance to many restaurants, etc. I would highly recommend the Grand Hotel
