Nice but not amazing
Rooms are pretty small, no microwave. No hot water the first day we were there and no additional amenities offered. Would have been nice since we couldn't wash for 24 hours to be offered something in return.

Beautiful hotel
The hotel is beautiful and Bobby that waited on us in the restaurant was so nice and knowledgeable. Gave us so much information on places to go and see and eat and gave us so much history on the hotel. We will definitely be staying there again when we come back.

Don't book here! Third Party Charges non-refundable fee
Just a warning: I booked my room directly through The Benson Portland's website. Unbeknownst to me, that process took me to a third-party booking company (reservationcounter.com, parent company: hotelbooking). After I confirmed the ample free cancellation timeline, made the reservation, and paid, I received a confirmation. In small print, it asserted that there was a $15.99, non-refundable booking charge. I've since investigated reservationcounter. They have a 1.8/5 review status on BBB for just this kind of nonsense. I tried to inform the hotel and the respondent (probably in Southeast Asia) insisted that the hotel doesn't use this service. My credit company fraud department states that the Benson definitely does use this service. Bottom line: There are many great hotels in Portland that truly don't charge for cancellations and don't force you to give your credit card info to a scammy third party. Avoid this hotel.

3 night stay
We stayed 3 nights in this historic hotel and really enjoyed it. It has been excellently cared for with a beautiful lobby area and the rooms are very clear and modern with very nice amenities and decor. The hotel staff is fantastic, friendly and very helpful. It is close to a variety of restaurants (found the Portland City Gill just a couple blocks away with spectacular river view and great food), bars and venues. Will stay here again without question the next time we’re in Portland.

Another great experience at the Benson thanks Clarissa
Clarissa was very helpful setting up reservations and recommending places to go. She treated my large group of 40 people more like close family than just another customer. I don't know why TripAdvisor would make me do 200 minimum characters. It is very silly
