Skyhook Motel is located in the town of Mitchell. If you have ever been to the Skyhook and had the impression that it resembles a series of connected cottages rather than a motel, you would be right. These cottages were salvaged from the World War II shipyard town of Vanport after the devastating flood in 1948.

Very old (1960’s) rooms
The motel rooms date back to the early 1960s. Nothing has been done since then, except for the bathroom fixtures, which must have been around the beginning of the 21st century. It turned out we'd also been upgraded; I would have liked to see the other rooms. The beds were old, though the mattresses were comfortable; they had apparently been replaced at some point in the past. The floor in our room had also sunk and sloped. We were glad to leave the next morning. Definitely not worth the money.

Disappointed
For the price, I expected at least the basics. I was disappointed. The sheets and floor was clean but there was a coat of dust elsewhere. There was no fridge or ice. We were provided with one thin cake of soap, no shampoo or other conveniences. The sound from other rooms was very loud even though I don't think the other guests were very loud.

Clean, neat, friendly- A bargain-hunter's gem.
Skyhook Motel is not for everyone, but it is a great bargain! We booked one night, but stayed for two. It’s really convenient for the John Day Fossil Beds area. The building is very old, and is being renovated with love but on a budget, so improvements are gradual. Windows, bathroom, and television were brand new. Beds were old fashioned and quilt covered, comfortable and homey. The place is really clean and neat. It has some quirks that made us laugh, like trying to figure out how to plug in the coffee pot. Downside: it is very small, and very old. If you are looking for luxury, this isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a good night’s sleep, it’s perfect. We will definitely stop there again if we are in the area.

quaint town and quaint guesthouse
quaint town and quaint guesthouse. From the top of the cliff, chairs outside the rooms provide a lovely view of the town. a wonderful place to unwind. The owner is very friendly and gives a discount for paying with cash.

Mitchell
Funky little place, fine for one night. Clean and comfortable enough. Probably overpriced for what it is but I understand owner has to make ends meet. Hot even with fans in August but can't blame as we knew in advance. Only thing I would have liked was for the spiders and webs to have been vacuumed out of the bathroom window and over the shower.
