Hotel Sylvia is a boutique destination for book lovers on the Oregon Coast. This iconic property (c. 1910) has operated for more than forty years as a quiet literary retreat. The hotel is named after the legendary 20th century bookseller and publisher Sylvia Beach. After purchasing the hotel in 2024, VIP Hospitality completed a full renovation in 2025 to preserve its legacy for decades to come. Perched on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean, the hotel’s breakfast café, lobby, and most guestrooms boast stunning views of the coast. A dedication to literary culture is felt in details throughout, including original artwork and bookshelves in every room. Each of the 22 guest rooms has a literary theme: seven are dedicated to specific authors, and the others are tastefully decorated with a literary genre (Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Literary Non-Fiction, Mystery, and Romance). The top floor of the hotel houses the James Joyce Library, a quiet attic space to read and write.

Newly remodeled rooms but kept old charm.
Have stayed here many times in the past before remodel and loved it. Decided to give the remodel Sylvia Beach a try. We were pleasantly surprised, the rooms were updated Nicely, but the hotel kept the old charm Library is now only on 4th floor, which kept its old feel, but there are 2 other Comfortable spaces. After the breakfast service in the cafe, which was excellent, that room is now open for guests. To read, puzzles etc… with great views.Alex at front desk was very helpful. We will be back.

Romance Room
Very nice place to stay! We loved the balcony where you could sit and watch the ocean waves. Our room was really nice with great views of the Nye Beach. We definitely would come here again. Lots of nice rooms to choose from. Love that there are books there to look at and opportunity to make my own notes to add to my reading list. I saw some really interesting books. Great place for the bibliophile.

A real gem to be enjoyed and appreciated
This is not your usual oceanfront hotel but a true gem to be appreciated. The ocean views and proximity to the beach was not the only attractive feature of the hotel, but the hotel itself is to be enjoyed for its attention to thoughtful design and detailing throughout. The service was friendly and professional and the food and coffee were solid. Overall, we had an amazing stay and look forward to going back.

Main character in a novel…
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Hotel Sylvia. We stayed in the Love Room, and what a lovely and delightful experience! It felt like I myself was in a novel. From beautiful art work, to unique furniture pieces, every detail seemed to be thought out and placed intentionally. The reading nook, the fireplace and windows looking out to the shores of the Oregon coast all facilitated the release of life’s stress, helping us to breathe, rest, read and rejuvenate. Staff was helpful and welcoming, Cafe Sylvia tasted amazing (the biscuits are out of this world), and the 4th floor library is reminiscent of the rich years of existence with their collection of books and journals. I would love to come back for another stay. Thank you!
