Hotel Sylvia is a boutique destination for book lovers on the Oregon Coast. This iconic property (c. 1910) has operated for more than forty years as a quiet literary retreat. The hotel is named after the legendary 20th century bookseller and publisher Sylvia Beach. After purchasing the hotel in 2024, VIP Hospitality completed a full renovation in 2025 to preserve its legacy for decades to come. Perched on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean, the hotel’s breakfast café, lobby, and most guestrooms boast stunning views of the coast. A dedication to literary culture is felt in details throughout, including original artwork and bookshelves in every room. Each of the 22 guest rooms has a literary theme: seven are dedicated to specific authors, and the others are tastefully decorated with a literary genre (Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Literary Non-Fiction, Mystery, and Romance). The top floor of the hotel houses the James Joyce Library, a quiet attic space to read and write.

Main character in a novel…
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Hotel Sylvia. We stayed in the Love Room, and what a lovely and delightful experience! It felt like I myself was in a novel. From beautiful art work, to unique furniture pieces, every detail seemed to be thought out and placed intentionally. The reading nook, the fireplace and windows looking out to the shores of the Oregon coast all facilitated the release of life’s stress, helping us to breathe, rest, read and rejuvenate. Staff was helpful and welcoming, Cafe Sylvia tasted amazing (the biscuits are out of this world), and the 4th floor library is reminiscent of the rich years of existence with their collection of books and journals. I would love to come back for another stay. Thank you!

A happy end of summer stay
Everything was very nice. A little sad that the old room decors are gone. The staff is very friendly and courteous. The beds are very comfortable. The option for a fresh breakfast on property is nice.

Great visit to the coast.
The hotel Sylvia has a library theme and very quaint. We stayed in the Shakespeare room which had an ocean view. The hotel was well decorated and very comfortable. The outdoor space was nice and had sitting space and a fire pit. The staff was very accommodating and nice breakfast was available for an additional fee, but worth it.
