Small comfortable hotel
We recently stayed at the Hotel Prairie for 2 nights as part of our road trip through Central and Eastern Oregon. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. The staff were friendly, and informative. I enjoyed being able to get a cold beer after a long day of hiking! Prairie City is a great location if you want to hike in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness- which we did, or visit other areas or historic sites like the Kam Wah Chung in John Day. It is adjacent to several restaurants, including Chuck's Little Diner- the go-to breakfast place for the town apparently- where on our first morning a guy insisted on getting up from his table so we wouldn't have to sit at the bar. We would definitely stay there again, and highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice accommodations in the area.
Comfortable old hotel
The building is reasonably charming and staff helpful. Our room was clean, if a little small, and the bathroom excellent. The lounge area is a lovely place to sit. There is an overall air of some character missing though despite the history.
Clean and well appointed!
I was so pleased by the cleanliness and comfort of our room (4)! There is an attached quiet bar but we found very good food walking a block down the street. The bar was more of an early evening wine stop, nothing loud or obnoxious! Look around the back for the hidden gem of a garden.
Beautifully restored hotel and family run.
This is a real gem of a hotel. The whole place has been lovingly restored and it shows. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the shower hot and full and the morning coffee strong. My host was a member of the family that owns and restored the hotel and she was lovely and great source of historical information about the the town. There is also an excellent restaurant (The Owbow) two doors down and a great general store a block away. Will definitely stay again.
If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to stay - this is it! Affordable, beautiful building. This is a small town with limited amenities in the off season - just what we were looking for. My husband and I loved getting away to this quiet town with an amazing place to stay.
